i am not really into old school doom style shooter games, but this one was an exception, i really loved the experience and strongly recommend it both for people who like this genre and for those who enjoy dark games with a gloomy medieval fantasy atmosphere. besides the maps being gothic and amazing, you also face many gothic creatures with different attack styles and bosses, including werewolves, skeletons, dark mages, ghosts and vampires!!23 found this helpful
Played on Linux using Proton Exp as the Linux Native Version has not been updated, I did first play the Linux Native version which works but the combat was not great, The patch 1.5.0 fixes this but only patched for Windows so that's why i changed to using Proton. The Good: Graphics are okay. Sound is okay. Gameplay is okay. The not so Good: Linux build not being patched to match Windows Version. Basic A.I. It's an okay game, nothing special, not the Greatest combat system, Even with the Patch still a bit hit or miss with melee weapons, Spell's work okay as it's just shooter style, A.I. is just see player then attack, so pretty basic. Still it worth a play, if you are not sure about the game then it does have a demo to try. I'd give this Game a Neutral Rating if that was possible on Steam.1 found this helpful
A dollar store game. Worth that dollar, but not a good game by any means.
For a solo Dev, this game is really impressive, but not without flaws. I played on the easiest difficulty and completed the game in about 90 minutes. My main issue with the game is the inability to disable head bob. I don't get motion sickness ever, but the head bob is really intense and started giving me a headache almost immediately. Increasing FoV helps a little bit, but not enough. That aside, the game is fun!
Zemlijak knows how to tickle the surface between tactical breadth and situational complexity. The responsive-yet-weighty magic-and-swordplay feels more like Elder Scrolls than Dark Souls, and I enjoy experiencing it on a player-skill curve (as opposed to a character-progression curve). Aesthetically, he applies his professionalism to mask the game's low production value, rather than, as we may hope to see, rocking the constraints of his development by styling about them. I am personally unfond of Unreal Engine, but here it couches the mechanics well enough. On the whole, Lichenvale is a treat appropriately kept short and sweet, and I look forward to Zemlijak's future titles if he decides to continue.
Really fun game!
