About Lost on Cow Island

Doc Braun's time-machine has crashed in a cave - but where, and when? Play as Julius, an erudite and sardonic English art student, to get the two out of this unfortunate situation.

The situation being; they're on an island of cows. Like, cow-people. With clothes, and American accents. And also there's one human chick who's probably into grimecore.

This comedy adventure game borrows from the Lucasarts games of the mid-90's, like Sam & Max Hit the Road, Monkey Island, and Grim Fandango -- meaning you don't have to worry about dying (well except in Grim Fandango), and are free to enjoy the adventure.

The control system lets you easily investigate every object and interogate (nicely) every character, so you have plenty of room to think, and not click all day. With a specially composed (by human, not AI) soundtrack, lush sound-effects, and large cinemographs and detailed backgrounds, you will feel immersed and at home in the environment; which is good, because about 10 minutes in you meet a talking horse, so if we hadn't taken this much care...With an easy, (mostly) linear narrative, and lots of humour and moon-logic puzzling, Lost on Cow Island will have you lmao-ing for 5 hours - towards an ending you never saw coming!

Strange, that it has no reviews... It's a normal playable point n click adventure game. All dialogues are spoken. The speakers are talented people. The Dialogues are more entertaining and characters are more likable than in "Gibbous" for example. I don't usually play adventure games and english is not my native language, so I don't understand all jokes in game. But I wanted to play some sane indie game. And here it is! PS: [strike]You can't skip dialog[/strike] and there is no fast walking. [strike]And no fullscreen?[/strike] Edit: Skipping the dialog can be enabled in settings. (nice!) Fullscreen is Alt+Enter. (But it has no support for widescreen? The ingame image is just stretched to fit the screen.)

This game relies on moon-logic so far out there that the moon I'm referring to may not reside in this solar system. This is particularly sad because my initial impression was that it was interesting, had visually appealing artwork/locations and had that "cozy" feel to it. However, when a game punishes you for playing it, no amount of eye candy and fuzzies can compensate for that. Another example of form & fashion failing to make up for substance.

While at first I noticed only the many, many flaws and gruelling design decisions in "Lost on Cow Island", pretty soon its virtues grabbed me. Between the gorgeous backgrounds (if they really are hand-painted, that is), the fitting voices, and searching through dark corners with the candle, I found myself having fun almost in spite of the puzzles’ attempt to thwart my progress. Even if not everything makes sense or fits well together when you stop and think about it, that familiar old-school adventure game feel is definitely there. There is a lot to do and many inventory items to collect, with plenty of funny conversations in between. Actually using those items in the “correct” way, however, isn’t so much a matter of pushing your brain cells to the limit as resorting to puzzle experimentation until something randomly works. That too can be entertaining for a while, but in tossing out the last forty years of genre evolution, the game might just leave you twitching and disoriented like a mad cow yourself. https://adventuregamehotspot.com/review/6422/lost-on-cow-island
