About Return to Monkey Island
Embark on a swashbuckling point-and-click adventure as Guybrush Threepwood returns to familiar islands and uncharted territories, solving clever puzzles and battling wits with old nemeses and new threats. This long-awaited sequel reunites legendary creator Ron Gilbert with the original Monkey Island composers for a fresh take on classic adventure gameplay with modern controls and witty, devastating ripostes.
It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.
Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory.
Return to Point & Click Swashbuckling
Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze.
Embark on Archipelago Adventures
Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces. Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike.
Created by a Legendary Crew
The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).

I just love the monkey island games so much and this one felt very much like the originals just with improved playability. Coudln't recommend these games more, they are my happy place.2 found this helpful
Great story and graphics
Getting angry at a video game for changing its art style when every single entry in the series over the last 30 years was stylistically unique is crazy. I think it looks great! My favorite is probably Monkey Island 2 Special Edition, but I love the art direction on this game as well. The puzzles, the writing, the voice acting, all on point. Lots of fan service for older players as well, right down to the Ask Me About Loom guy sitting miserably in the Scumm Bar. And I love how the game ends on Guybrush just sitting there, taking in his life and being happy for a moment. It was a rare genuine moment of peace from a guy who has left a lot of unfortunate destruction in his happy go lucky path.
cute nostalgia trip
Long time fan of the series. Started with Monkey Island 3, I got it from my Cousin as a present and she got it cheap with a computer magazine. Played and replayed all the rest a few times over the years. I even like the Telltale version. The one I didn't like was Monkey Island 4, and Return to Monkey Island only ranks just above that one. So in my opinion it's the 2nd worst of the series, and to sum it up in one word: Unfulfilling. The art style is meh - I can live with it, but still just, meh. The music doesn't fit the game at all, it doesn't give you that nostalgic feeling with goosebumps the older games do. It's just...off. Gameplay is ok, it's point and click, though I did miss some better controls, like advancing dialogue with a mouse click. I feel the GUI could have been slightly better, but still, overall ok. One good point, walking/running happens at a decent pace. At no point are you sitting there just waiting for Guybrush to walk from point A to point B, double click and he runs pretty fast. Storywise...is my biggest letdown. Not only is there no conclusion to the game, it feels like they got funding cut at 95% just before the finish line, and then they serve you a r…
Fun and well polished return to monkey island. Anyone that loved the originals will adore this one :)
