Will you be able to balance the responsibilities of life in the big city or will you be swallowed up by an unforgiving urban jungle? Will you prioritise your friends, your reputation, your career? In an open world where, more than ever, the choices you ignore matter as much as the ones you explore, you will need to choose carefully if you are to survive.

- • Explore the city of Lux over several days: pursue a career, investigate chilling mysteries, or head out into the local wilds in search of adventure.

- • Build a reputation among the clergy, the Watch and the aristocracy; become a champion of the poor or pursue a life of crime.

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 318: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10) Man, what a bummer. Book 1 and Book 2 has built upon the foundations of each other, and I think the author's excellent prose and use of a Clue system is unrivaled. So, I thought this sequel would be bigger, deeper, and more satisfying. And to be clear: the writing is still great, the atmosphere is compelling, and there are a ton of branching paths to explore. But in trying to go wide,[i] Lux [/i]feels shallow. What’s here is good—but what isn’t here might matter more. 🥇[b] Pros:[/b] [list] [*]Fantastic writing and immersive tone. No complaints about the prose. It’s vivid, stylish, and brings Lux to life as a gritty, sprawling, mysterious city full of secrets. The setting is well realized and layered with enough history, flavor, and tension that it feels like an RPG city hub... if only you had time to explore it. [*]Genuinely high replay value. The amount of choice is impressive. There are a crazy amount of career paths, romance options, alliances, branching investigations, and multiple approaches to the same scenes. Book 3 of Evertree Saga. Characters we met in previous two books and well written as always.BUT as author says this is just the "first half of a two-part epic", though we have some sub cases can close, the main story still unfinished. If you interested in this book, I recommend you to play Evertree Inn and Sordwin first. Then you can know better about those characters in the whole Evertree world(YES, I mean know more about our ROs...heheh). For all I know City of Lies is working in process, hope to read it soooooooooon.3 found this helpful
holy moly choices and customization galore
Story branching is great, many different options to choose from and different variations. The storytelling & world building itself is also great, details from the first game like the organisations are carried over, Although when playing the 1st game it made me think some details were extra things that the author put in to make it so call more interesting but after playing the 3rd installation I realised it was part of the world building. I like that details from this game didn't just come out of nowhere and its a continuation from previous work. The only issue I have is that the game is shorter than I would have liked it. I understand there is a part 2 to this game and that there is a lot of different routes but I would have liked even a day more cause of the sheer amount of things that can be done.
NOTE: this review is a review of the series as a whole. The three books thus far are a contiguous story, so I believe your purchase decision should be influenced by whether you want to read the series. I wanted a more challenging / involved story, so I have read through the books of the Evertree Saga with a few blind playthroughs each (no guides, obviously I used my own memory on the latter ones). It's a contiguous story (think episodes of a mystery show), not as much a continuous one like Lord of the Rings, but the books do significantly influence one another and many characters, relationships, and some ongoing story points carry through, so I believe a joint review is more appropriate than reviewing each in tandem. Overall thoughts: These books, at their core, are mystery RPG books. There is an answer to who committed the main events, and from what I have found, that does not change during each playthrough. There are many clues to follow in the books, both real insights on characters and red herrings. However, from what I have found, you always find out in the end. "Trust cannot be taught like fear." -Mother Thalia This series has been really great. It's impressive how the first three books seam together. Did you like Daisy in the first? Or help the Half-orc? Well then, chances are they're your best friend in Lux, City of Secrets. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Never have I played a CYOA game that had such replay-ability. And that extends thru all three books. It may end on a cliffhanger but it's only the first part of a two-book adventure. I'd say this one is totally worth the money and you should try all three books in order to get some amazing results. 8/10
