Mahjong Gold is a puzzle experience developed by Creobit and published by 8Floor that takes the familiar structure of Mahjong solitaire and frames it inside a light adventure built around pirates, hidden treasure, and exploration. While many Mahjong titles focus entirely on delivering a quiet collection of puzzles without much context, this game attempts to give players a greater sense of progression by attaching its tile-matching gameplay to a treasure hunt inspired by classic adventure themes. The result is a casual title that remains easy to understand while offering enough progression systems to encourage players to continue moving forward. The boards in this game are rigged like a carnival midway designed to separate you from your hard earned money -- extremely difficult to impossible to get more than one star and progress to the higher levels. It appears as though they are set up with only one possible solution to hit the scoring targets, one false move and you will fail. Then if you stop to study the board carefully for the best possible move, you lose points on the score multiplier timer. I have purchased and played several other of the 8floor Mahjong games to completion of all boards and in-game achievements, but this one was an exercise in frustration and disappointment.
