Game with simple yet reliable gameplay. It's quick, it's tough, it's retro.
6,5/10 A die&retry mixed with stealth elements, which shines more through its art than through its gameplay. Master Spy is a very precise platformer, but the precision required is not as pixel perfect as in a game like Super Meat Boy. The difficulty is mainly due to many sequences of synchronized actions. Towards the ends, it requires coordination and reaction time in the order of 0.1 second. There are only two actions, jumping and becoming invisible. While invisible, moving is considerably slowed down. While visible, being spotted by the humans and robots is as instantly fatal as the various traps found throughout the game. There is also a "double jump". It doesn't make the jump higher but longer. And executing it requires a good timing. For the first half of the game, each level consist of 1 or 2 screens with 1 or 2 key cards to collect to unlock the door that lead to the next level. Later it can consist of bigger levels with multiple checkpoint. And thankfully there are checkpoints, because the game is very hard! Positive points The pixel art is good and varied with many little details. Scenery is renewed at each stage with each time new traps and ennemies. Excellent soundtrac…

the controls feel stiff, they don't make me want to push through the hard level design. in that way it does feel as it looks, retro

Can we talk about how good the soundtrack is? The cutsscenes? Mastering that Ninja Gaiden style. The gameplay is fun enough, but more than anything this is a perfection of a genre.

Honestly one of the most amazing games I've ever played. Really simple gameplay controls and design but you learn to do do so much to manipulate the enemy behaviour and navigate the world. You really feel like you're building up skills the more you go through the game, and challenges that seem insurmountable become almost second nature by the time you acclimate to them. Super awesome soundtrack to and really unique visuals. And on top of it it's a very unique game design. This doesn't use the platforming of a Flashback/Out of This World or Prince of persia. I was really glad I picked this up and played it and I think it's really worth checking out and trying if you like challenging action/twitch game experiences. And to everyone speaking to difficulty, it is difficult but it's also very rewarding. Like written above you'll encounter obstacles that seem impossible but if you keep trying you'll eventually push through because you the player figured it out.
