I didn't expect the game to be this cool. I really didn't give too much respect at first; thinking it was AI slop... I bought it because I love Wing Commander and I just love old school PC games in general... but to be honest, I thought this one was going to get refunded. I'm keeping this game in my library. It has a lot of soul and the gameplay works really nice where some missions are on foot and plays like an Action RPG... but for the most part you'll be doing missions on a ship where the combat is like Wing Commander. It's awesome!... games like this is why I love the Indie market so much. I just started the game... I'm hoping there's more NPCs to talk to because the voice acting isn't bad at all. The game has a really cool vibe. It has so many good things going for it; that I'm going to have to recommend it. If you're a RETRO gamer, you'll feel right at home with this game. Expect it to play like a RETRO game... so you'll be utilizing keys you normally don't use in modern games. Surprising little Gem of a game made by a passionate developer. I play some of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6a7qJUqQRE (Start it at 1:21:00)9 found this helpful
I am having a blast with this game! Feels like Wing Commander meets Zelda in the retro future. Take off and shoot down space pirates, fly down planets, explore and complete missions!8 found this helpful
Bought this game because it felt like a callback to Wing Commander (esp. Privateer) with it's cockpit UI and retro optics. However, everything in it feels dead and soulless, the combat is barebones. And god knows why the dev didn't cut the planetside action adventure segments. I see where they came from, but those graphics are barely readable and they don't promise ... you know, adventure? As a plus, I't got me to buy WC:P on GOG and I have been playing that since then, after struggling to get back into Early 90s Controls.6 found this helpful
Abstract
Good, superficial fun for 1-3 days, but don't expect too much out of it. More of a "nice rock you found at the beach" than calling it an "unpolished diamond".
Pros
The game certainly scratches certain itches with respect to the retro vibes and er... hommages; it's also a fun mix of certain such elements. I like the overall art style and environmental design. The combat is casually entertaining and arcade-style.
Cons
The pacing between the main story and side missions feels off. When the main story progresses, you're usually getting railroaded into it, basically dropping any open activity (like buying / outfitting a ship). Some story events should be high-stakes / trigger a sense of urgency, but then actually don't (or only do so late -
your girlfriend who lives in the same room with you running off into the unknown only for you to a few days later casually ask the bartender if he's seen her around before going looking for her
). Then, after setting you "on a ticking clock" story wise, you're dropped back into the mindless side-mission grind ("welp, gotta stack up my rep I guess"?). At some points during storytell…5 found this helpful
Fun little game, graphics style brought back memories. Gameplay is fine, audio and weapon effects could be punched up a little - but hey, nostalgia for only a few quid. Completed in 7 hours3 found this helpful
Reminds me of the Amiga days. If you like old school throw-backs like Wing Commander and Tie Fighter with a little planet exploration thrown in, you may like this. I can tell some heart was put behind it.
