About More Dark

After the lord of the other world went on vacation, his place was temporarily taken by the daughter Evilina. Not having time to comfortably settle in the throne, chaos and lawlessness began. All the prisoners scattered throughout the kingdom, saving themselves from eternal torment, thereby violating the usual idyll of this place.

Your task is to lead a detachment of demons and return everything to its place, deal with the rebels in the whole kingdom, cleaning one room after another. On your way you will find a lot of puzzles, as well as ingenious traps and obstacles that you can easily overcome with the help of improvised means.

The main feature of More dark is a stylish, pixel graphics, which together with the music conveys the atmosphere of a mysterious and gloomy kingdom.

More Dark is one of literally thousands of GameMaker Studio 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam. It's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. It's a basic 2D retro pixel platformer with no serious interest or value for PC gamers. Gameplay consists of puzzle/action platforming as you need to work out how to kill the prisoners and move the boxes around on each single screen level to get to the exit. Like most GameMaker Studio construction kit "games", this features lazy 2D retro pixel "art", instead of professionally done, contemporary PC graphics. Controls and resolution are locked, which pushes this below acceptable standards for PC. GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and unsurprisingly results in products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. Just like you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, you can't make a good game from a completely crap game engine. Using a video game construction kit requires little to no talent or skill as a game developer. Very often, GameMak…

More Dark is by no means a perfect game. You play as what appears to be a an imp (whose sprite reminds me of Ned Flanders) that has to solve platforming puzzles to kill prisoners in Hell for some reason while the devil is on vacation. Allow me to go over the cons: It's very short. The dialogue is terribly translated. Said dialogue spoken by Evilina, the demon lady featured in all the art is spoken by a man without any sort of attempt at making it sound like a woman. Said demon lady is the only truly decent-looking pixel art in the game. Most of the difficulty of puzzles is thanks to red herrings. Much of the usable items rely on trial and error because you're only given some of the details about how they work. The unlockable hats rely on finding a key in random levels by hugging the walls to find their exact location rather than being an optional, more-difficult level solution. The presence of a respawn button can make you accidentally kill yourself and add to your kill count. Said button is pointless because you can just exit the level and go back in if you get stuck, and that doesn't count toward death total. Finally, sometimes there's an odd hitbox inconsistency b…

More Dark, developed and published by HugePixel, is a 2D puzzle-platformer that embraces a retro-inspired aesthetic while delivering a compact, room-based challenge structure. Set in a stylized underworld where chaos has erupted after the ruler of Hell leaves his mischievous daughter in charge, the game frames its platforming gauntlet with a touch of dark humor. Rather than relying on heavy narrative exposition, it uses this premise as a backdrop for a steady progression of tightly constructed levels that focus on environmental puzzles and precision movement. The core gameplay revolves around navigating individual rooms filled with hazards such as spikes, pits, and moving obstacles. Each stage is relatively self-contained, encouraging players to treat it as a standalone challenge before moving on to the next. Movement mechanics are intentionally straightforward: running, jumping, and pushing objects form the backbone of interaction. The simplicity of the controls gives the game an accessible foundation, but the difficulty arises from how these mechanics are layered into increasingly intricate room designs. Timing jumps carefully, positioning crates correctly, and anticipating envi…

THIS IS A FUN GAME! .. I love the odd theme. The Colors used. The Background sounds. I mean this is not some 3d hi def game but it doesn't need to be as long as the challenge is there . AND ITS THERE .. I mean this aint Super MeatBoy but its damn fun .

A cute little platformer game, not too difficult, not too long. About an hour to complete. If you get it on sale it's a nice little time waster.
