About MORTEM
You are Timothy Collins. You arrive home late from work and enter your house. At first the silence is so deep, you realize that none of your family is home.
But then there’s a creak in the walls and a chill down your back. The voices in the dark are almost familiar.
Your home reverberates with revenge. MORTEM wants to play with you. Her favorite game is Hide and Seek, but beware, it comes with deadly consequences, and she might not have come alone.
The question is, will you survive?
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Keyboard & Mouse then Xbox controller. VR only review.
I'm looking at the store page video and wondering where is that game. None of that happened on my VR gameplay. I waited and waited for 10 minutes and nothing happened until the 10 minutes were over and then out of nowhere this ghost came and jump scared me. Game over. Keyboard & mouse played a little better than Xbox controller. I looked all around. I had several pathing issues. I got stuck on the stairs. There were several closets I couldn't open. But the biggest problem is that I think there's suppposed to be several things chasing you and you have to run to the closet to hide from them and turn off your flashlight, but none of that happened. I experienced zero game. The game is completely broken in VR. Rate 2/10. This is about as bad as games get. Maybe test out your game before releasing it on Steam?4 found this helpful
MORTEM, developed and published by Daníel Ómar Hauksson, is a small-scale first-person horror experience that leans heavily on atmosphere, isolation, and tension rather than mechanical complexity or large-scale production values. Set primarily within the confines of a seemingly ordinary home and its surrounding environment, the game follows Timothy Collins as he returns to find his family missing and his house transformed into a space filled with dread. What begins as a simple domestic mystery quickly evolves into a psychological descent shaped by shadowy corridors, unsettling sounds, and the constant implication that something is watching. The core of MORTEM’s gameplay revolves around exploration. Players navigate through dimly lit rooms and wooded exteriors, gradually uncovering clues about what has transpired. There is no emphasis on combat; instead, survival hinges on awareness and reaction. The game employs chase-like sequences and hide-and-seek scenarios that interrupt quiet investigation with sudden bursts of urgency. These moments create spikes of tension that contrast with the slower, creeping pace of wandering through dark hallways. While the structure is straightforward…2 found this helpful
I played this game and overall I think the price is fair for the content within. I will say it's challenging, I didn't beat it. I did have what might have been a glitch with one of the two that will chase you, but i'm unsure since it was hard to tell if what happened might have been intended. If you'd like to see someone playing the game to get a taste for it you can watch my "let's play" of it here: https://youtu.be/ch4USQzHMdQ I go into a little more detail as to what I like and don't like through out. All in all I feel like it's a worthwhile buy if jump-scare games are fun for you, and plus you help a smaller developer in this case rather than some big developer who will release a half product early and then endlessly patch it later. It's always nice to help the underdogs!2 found this helpful
