Mushiverse - Online Boardgame

Mushiverse is a pretty fun little online board game, and I liked how it takes some familiar property and board game ideas and adds a lot of chaotic mechanics on top. The basic goal is to move around the board, collect flags and build up my position, but there are plenty of ways to interfere with other players along the way. It has a very social feeling, especially when everyone starts trying to sabotage each other. The village system is one of the parts I enjoyed most. Each village has its own features, and choosing one also affects the characters and strategies available to me. I liked that because it gives the start of each match a little more importance than simply picking a random character. The different abilities encourage me to think about what kind of approach I want to take before I start moving around the board. There are also some wonderfully chaotic events that can completely change what is happening. Earthquakes can make certain cities much more valuable, while lover cities link two locations together so that actions affecting one can also affect the other. Unfortunately this was seriously lacking in direction as there was no tutorial, very little guidance in the UI, basically no character customisation except colour, and the game was buggy with two people in my lobby having the game break on them. It's free and a small project but the issues and the lack of updates on it since a month after release show that it seems to be essentially abandoned. A shame because there clearly is a demand for boardgame videogames that are free/affordable.
