My Pet Flesh Monster

My Pet Flesh Monster is one of those games that sounds completely ridiculous when I explain it, but I ended up finding it genuinely charming. Instead of raising a normal cat or dog, I get to adopt a strange little cosmic horror and treat it like my own pet. The contrast between the cute presentation and the fact that I am caring for a twitching flesh creature is what makes the whole thing work for me. The main gameplay is built around taking care of my monster's everyday needs. I have to feed it, keep it clean, look after its living space and make sure it gets enough rest. I liked how these basic pet care activities give the creature a sense of routine. It does not feel like I am simply checking menus, because the pet is actually part of the room and I am interacting with it directly. Training is another part I enjoyed. I can teach my creature new tricks and then take it to pet contests to see how well it performs. I liked having something more active to work toward instead of only keeping the pet's needs satisfied. The contests also give me a reason to spend more time training, while dressing up the monster adds an extra layer of silly customization. The four different creature…

Cute, but not much of a horror game. Caring for your monster is incredibly easy, and even if you do intentionally neglect it there's barely a consequence. I think it would have been better if the horror aspect was dropped entirely and it was instead more of a normal virtual pet sim that happens to have monstrous creatures. On the plus side, the actual visuals for the game are pretty nice. I like the designs for the creatures, and I appreciate the customization aspects.

Although this game is very cute and a fun premise I can't really recommend it as it does not have a very long playtime. I do not know if my game was simply bugged or not but it would get to a point where the stats were decreasing so fast I couldn't keep up. I had an issue where sometimes after eating the cleanliness would go down but there would be no splotch to clean up, so eventually the cleanliness would empty entirely and I'd be sent back to the last save spot. This didn't feel like an intended feature but it also happened with every pet I tried to have. I even attempted to "clean" the entire apartment with the soap, thinking maybe I just couldn't see the splotch but that didn't work either.
