Mysteries of Perception

Very shallow and short experience, the whole game feels like a demo. My play time is probably twice as much as it should take to finish the game, because I restated the game from the begining because of what I though was a bug. (Might have been or might have been a poor design decision, or maybe a translation problem ? not sure...) Perspective from different character is supposed to be important, but it really doesn't feel like it. I was expecting to see the same scene through the eyes of different character, but no, you mainly gather clues in different places depending on which character you are playing. The 3 cases are pretty straightforward and the worldbuilding was disappointing. The characters whoses perspective is supposed to be so important are one dimensional stereotypes. I was mainly disappointed because of the high expectations I formed while reading the description and some of the positive reviews, so it might be an enfoyable game for as long as you temper your expectation of it. Very happy to recommend this game, I bought this on sale, but even at full price I think it's value for money. It's a short game (I completed this game with 100% achievements in just under 2 hours) but for the the price I don't know many places you can absorb yourself in good writing, beautiful artwork and some decent mysteries. On the flip side, I am disappointed by a failure to achieve it's full potential. The writers clearly put a lot of thought into names of worlds, characters and arcane artifacts. They have created some kind of ancient history that is beginning to clash with the more modern world. There are a lot of characters where backstories are hinted at and leave you wanting to know more. But none of this is expanded on! It's like picking up a book that promises so much then finding out that most of the pages are blank. I really hope that this game finds enough success to spawn another game in the same universe as I'm desperate to know more about it. Especially after seeing the statue of a 'Queen' with the same hairstyle as me...perhaps I'm secretly royalty in another dimension?! Nope. Sorry. It just flew over my head. It is a detective visual novel, some kind, but the whole detective part is only pixelhunting, where you need to find glowing green stars and read the text. After you have found everything, you have to put together a story, which can be brute force if you didn't get something, and you won't because the story is a mess. The whole game is around 1 hour long, and it contains 3 chapters, but it doesn't feel very coherent, and the ending is unsatisfactory. But at least the art style is nice.

First thing, this game is short. I'm perfectly fine with games being short, but I want it to be longer because of the games real strength - the world building. This game has a really interesting world that makes me want to know more about the world and characters. Clearly inspired by The Golden Idol this is a short experience that will scratch that Golden Idol itch you might be having. I will note there are a few item descriptions that have not been translated into english, but they aren't required to complete the puzzles. Just a bit of good old fashioned thinking. Definitely a prototype for what I'm hoping are future games in this world.

A very interesting game, especially in terms of characters and artwork. It is very short and left me wanting more, but I'll still recommend getting it on sale.

Interesting concept, but for this price I cannot recommend it. It feels very much like an hour long demo and not a fully finished game.
