About Scene Investigators
Set in the near future, you play as a trainee in pursuit of becoming a licensed investigator. Presented with a set of reconstructed case files that border between challenging and perplexing, your goal is to solve them and pass the test. Your only tools are your keen perception, astute thinking and mental acuity. Can you solve them all?

A Note for The Painscreek Killings Fans... In terms of gameplay, Scene Investigators is quite a departure from our first game, The Painscreek Killings. TPK focuses heavily on the story and uses a rather simple 'breadcrumb' system for its gameplay, one that allows players to continue their investigation whenever they pick up a clue. Scene Investigators, on the other hand, leans heavily on keen observation, filling in the missing gaps, looking for motives when they aren't there, and coming up with a number of possible assumptions in order to solve the case.
In short, The Painscreek Killings is a story-rich game while Scene Investigators is a deduction reasoning game.

I was really excited for this game and was enjoying it. The UI could use work and what's garnered as the 'hint' system isn't really hints, just a list of evidence you need to collect. There's no way for beginner, or even advanced puzzle solving players who want help or direction, to get any feedback on their answers being correct other than starting the level again. It messes with the pace and immersion with what they were trying to do with a 'detective diving into generated world to solve past cases' theme. However, that's not what ultimately made me decide to write this. This is: After the preliminary you are set to Floor 4 that has 3 cases. The 3rd case, room 403, is about a party with highschoolers. You find a paper that shows the deceased was accused of sexual assault/harassment and is suspended for investigation. I, as the player, would automatically believe the victim of the assault in this situation until more evidence arose. When I solved the case, I assumed Jack, the assault victim's brother, had killed Brian (the one murdered) as payback for what he did to his sister. I really enjoyed that. Played on detective mode and had a good time. I found the "Missing" case to be uncomfortably dark story-wise but the puzzle of it was good and I can't deny it engaged me. "Bloodbath" was easily my favorite case in terms of the puzzle. I think this kind of game is definitely either your cup of tea or its not. The store description for the game does a good job of explaining what you're in for. You can't brute force these puzzles. You're not going to find the one piece that spells out the answer. You have to bring yourself in and engage and hypothesize with the evidence and if that's not something you enjoy then this isn't your kind of game. I would also say to pay attention to the mature themes warning. There's triggering stuff in here if you have certain sensitivities, particularly in "Missing".1 found this helpful
This is a great detective game that requires you to think for yourself and make logical assumptions based on the evidence collected, not leaps of logic that make no sense. Well worth it at a slight discount. Best played with someone else to bounce ideas off and help you keep track of things. We finished the game but finished it on a different account using family sharing therefore my playtime is low.1 found this helpful
Very fun and genuinely challenging with clever puzzles, well put together scenarios, and an engaging storytelling that keeps you interested from start to finish.
I kind of hate this game sorry to say. I was super excited because I've been looking for a good investigation game and thought this was it however I reeeally didnt enjoy this. The logic is so off. Its not even an intelligence issue, its just genuinely nothing makes sense. I was frustrated almost the entire time. Also instead of having fun walking around collecting evidence its mostly reading diaries and things similar to know whats going on. I like to read but this was just excessive and then after all that reading you still get the answers wrong lmao. I only forced myself to keep playing because i paid $36!!!
Very fun and a good challenge. Nice puzzles, with really well done scenarios and engaging storytelling.
