About Natural Disaster: A Butterfly's Guide to Mass Destruction

“Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?” –Edward Lorenz, “The Butterfly Effect”

Natural Disaster: A Butterfly’s Guide to Mass Destruction is a slapstick puzzle game with inspiration from point-and-click classics of how one very evil butterfly can bring down an empire. Explore a world through a stereoscope, test your limits as a teeny butterfly in a human’s world, and start chains of cause-and-effect that ripple across the seven scenes to disastrous results.

A SMALL WORLD OF SMALL PUZZLES
Investigate the environment to discover items you can carry, objects you can activate, and places you can land to find how to lead these people to their worst nightmares.

PLAY THROUGH A STEREOSCOPE VIEWER
Explore seven rich 3D locations through the lens of a stereoscope. Follow the characters through paths with multiple endings as your actions in one scene continue in another.

TIME LOOP TRIALS
Upon your death, you find yourself back at the beginning, and all of the humans’ peaceful lives restored. It’s a time loop trap…or an opportunity for new methods.

A BUTTERFLY NEVER FORGETS
Your shenanigans are logged the Scrapbook. It journals everything you’ve learned about your targets across multiple trials and is a guide for what the butterfly might be curious to try next.

HOLD ON…A WIZARD?
In all your exploits, no one seems to notice that it is a butterfly causing their misfortune. But what happens when somebody does?

"Natural Disaster: A Butterfly's Guide to Mass Destruction" is an amusing premise for a game that's somewhat let down by some unusual artistic choices and lacklustre technical implementation. In this game, which, bizarrely (and frankly a bit annoyingly) is presented with a "Stereoscope"/View-Master 3D picture viewer filter, you control a butterfly that flaps around. The objective is to trigger a series of events which cause a catastophe... a loose play on the whole "Butterfly Effect" thing, I suppose. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. …

took me just under an hour to complete all pathways, puzzles are not too difficult to complete but sometimes get a bit confusing with the scenes. All are a bit funny, was a good play!

Once you realize what it is you are supposed to be doing, it is a quick fun little romp to see all the chains through to their end. Flipping scenes is an important tactic... remember those buttons!

A delightful game! Very creative and unique. Sometimes the controls/interactions aren't the cleanest, but if you are looking for a shorter free puzzle game, I know of none better.
