About Neyyah
Neyyah is a first-person point-and-click adventure game, set within a collection of remote almost abandoned islands, separated by a series of complex portal machinery and laced with the fingerprints of two very intriguing cultures.
Upon waking up from a strange dream, you find yourself transported to a place called Olujay, where you meet Vamir, who sends you to Neyyah in the hope you will be safe there. For reasons you will discover upon your many explorations, Vamir needs you for a matter of great urgency.
A wrong must be righted. A civilization avenged. A secret revealed.
You end up on Neyyah with only a small amount of knowledge given to you by the frantic Vamir on what you’re supposed to do when you’re there.
Things don't go as planned. In order to return to Olujay and reach Vamir, you will have to explore Neyyah – linking together the mechanical contraptions, rusted levers and blue plasma portal systems scattered throughout the bizarre landscapes, as you learn about the cultures that have shaped Neyyah.
Not everything is as it seems, and as you wander further into Neyyah's ancient heart, your discoveries will lead you to uncover the very truths behind the fate of Earth itself ...

This just didn't click for me. I loved the old Myst and Riven games back in the day, but I don't think this style of game really holds up well. I feel like they could have at least went for the bubble nodes instead of the slideshow. Especially frustrating where the constant long video transitions, especially when interacting with a screen. Why does every tablet or computer screen in the game need to play an identical animation when both entering and exiting it? In addition, I found the acting hokey and the writing to be overly expository. The names especially were a little ridiculous. Good writing makes a fictional language feel lived in. This writing does not. Finally, the world itself. It's just kind of bland. Everything all looks the same and despite being an alleged love letter to Myst and Riven, Neyyah lacks color. I enjoyed playing this game, it's definitly a labor of love for the devs lots of deep lore and care put into it. It does have some pretty glaring issues though, the big one is that there is way too much lore, if you've ever played Uru (myst online) its on par with that except in a much smaller space, so you are constantly triping over 20 page books with stories upon stories, sometimes these books have important information needed to progress so you kind of have to read it all. I wouldn't mind the lore so much if there werent so many made up words that are almost impossible to decipher with context. I beat the game read as many books as I could and if you gave me a quiz I could probably tell you maybe a 4th of what the made up words mean. Now onto the gameplay, I wish there were more puzzles, most of the game is "find switch" and then "what did that switch do?" Half of the time you dont get an answer because you find the switch before you find whatever it did. There are a lot of symbol puzzles which I liked, but they reuse the same symbols multiple times and it gets hard to keep track of what is related to what so you end up trying everything you have written down. This is definitely the perfect Myst-clone. It could stand proudly among all the others in the Myst saga. Very challenging, lot of reading, but a great story.1 found this helpful
Follows in the likes of Myst series, with actual video clips of people talking to you and native wild animals about. Search and learn at your own pace. Very atmospheric. Brilliant, been missing its like for years.1 found this helpful
