About Nihilumbra

✦ AI summary

Guide Born through a breathtaking hand-painted world where you paint the ground with five magical colors to solve puzzles, manipulate physics, and uncover his identity while fleeing the relentless Void. This poetic puzzle-platformer blends stunning visuals with accessible storytelling, offering a gentle adventure for newcomers and a challenging Void Mode for veterans seeking deeper mastery.

Discover the beautiful world of Nihilumbra and join Born on his adventure to find himself whilst trying to escape from his inevitable curse.
Born was created from the absolute nothingness: The Void. But somehow he separates himself from the black emptiness and appears in the world. This is where his long odyssey begins, in which he will learn how to use the colors around him to gain powerful abilities and transform the world.

However, his experiences come at a high price. The Void must be one. It seeks to reclaim him and will never stop chasing him, destroying everything in its path along the way.
To survive, Born will have to condemn the earth he walks to its inevitable obliteration by The Void...

Advise: Nihilumbra has been designed in a way that everyone can enjoy its story, even without previous experience with puzzle games. However, players seeking for a challenge will find it on the second half of the game: the Void Mode.

A very complete and holistic game. Beautifully designed, quite forgiving in the story mode, probably a little naive with its message... it is nonetheless shares a kind perspective and gives you something.

I was today's years old when I discovered that Nihilumbra is actually a love story. A mysterious being called the Void follows you all the way to the end of the world because it loves you so much that it never wants to let you go. It just wants to hug, kiss, and marry you until the story ends in tragedy and it suddenly doesn't want you anymore because you've run out of money. Life lesson learned: there's no house without a mortgage. But seriously, this game is absolutely worth buying. The Story Mode is the mode you'll play first. It teaches you the basics of the platforming gameplay. The game is divided into five areas, and in each one you unlock a new color. Every color introduces a new mechanic that helps you overcome obstacles and progress through the levels. For many players, Story Mode might feel like a walk in the park. But don't worry, the developers have you covered with an extra mode called Void Mode. How much harder is it? Well... A lot harder. While Story Mode focuses on teaching you the fundamentals, Void Mode expects you to master them. Unlike Story Mode, you're given access to all five colors right from the start. The levels constantly challenge you to com…

Nihilumbra by BeautiFun Games is a puzzle-platformer that manages to feel both mechanically inventive and emotionally reflective, blending traditional side-scrolling design with a quiet, philosophical narrative. It follows the journey of a being known as Born, who emerges from an all-consuming void and begins moving through a fragmented world while being relentlessly pursued by that same darkness. From the outset, the game establishes a tone that is more contemplative than dramatic, using its premise as a foundation for themes centered on identity, existence, and the tension between creation and oblivion. At a mechanical level, the game starts with familiar platforming elements—movement, jumping, and navigating hazards—but it quickly distinguishes itself through its defining system: the ability to manipulate the environment using colors. As players progress, they unlock different pigments that can be applied directly onto surfaces, each altering physics and interaction in meaningful ways. Blue reduces friction, allowing for high-speed sliding; green introduces elasticity, enabling bouncing traversal; brown slows movement and adds grip; red burns through obstacles; and yellow inter…

more puzzle than platform because the platform aspect is actually really simple and it's the thinking/creativity that's hard. but I like those types of games so just be aware it's really a puzzle game

Alright puzzle platformer game. You get different color abilities which lets you draw on the world and create ice to move fast or make things slip, bouncy ability for yourself but also bullet, and some more. Everything is really well taught and you end up needing to combine your abilities which make for some nice puzzles. Nothing that goes too crazy though. I found art and music ok, maybe just not my vibe. The game also has a narrator, but it wasn't too appealing to me, and the dialogue itself felt very surface level. I don't mind this because it doesn't take away from the puzzle platforming aspect of this game. There a Void Mode after you beat the game. Now this is hardcore, but trying it a bit, I decided not to continue because it goes from nice puzzle platformer to hard puzzle platformer with precision and timing challenges amped up. I knew I wouldn't enjoy that, but I do think its a good addition. it's built on top of the existing levels but the challenges really seem to change thing up. It also breaks things down into level which and removes the voice which is smart because being able to tackle other level if your stuck and not having to hear the voice repeat itself are thou…
