About Once Upon a Sea

Once Upon a Sea is a poetic, interactive XR documentary telling the tragic tale of the legendary Dead Sea. Through a physical exploration of the sea’s forbidden, moonlike landscapes, to intimate encounters with local characters, the user gets a rare glimpse into one of the world’s most dangerous, soon to be extinct, wonders. Centuries of human intervention and political neglect have turned the Dead Sea into a precarious place. Its water levels have dropped dramatically, leaving behind sinkholes and collapsing beaches. The experience offers a deep insight into the complexity and very human impact of this ecological and geopolitical crisis. Once Upon a Sea is our call to action.

✦ AI summary

Once Upon a Sea has significant technical issues that limit its VR experience. Players report poor controller compatibility, particularly with Index and Reverb G2 controllers, preventing proper item interactions and accessibility to game content. Additionally, the game suffers from disappointing visual quality, with 360 videos appearing too low-resolution for VR and 3D environments showing poor performance even on high-end hardware.

Partially works on Reverb G2. Once Upon a Sea is a cinematic experience with flat 360 videos and small environments exploration. Videos were too low res for VR and looked awful, while graphical performance of 3D levels was abysmal on 6800 XT. I could only tolerate a few first chapters, before shutting it down and refunding. Item interactions do not works with Reverb G2 controllers. It does not prevent progress through the scene, but makes some parts of the content not accessible.
