Operation: Surface Takeover is a really enjoyable little strategy game that combines real time strategy with tower defense in a way I found easy to get into. Humanity is trying to reclaim the surface of Earth from radiation mutated insects, and I have to protect my headquarters while building defenses and pushing back the infestation. I liked how quickly the game gets me into the strategic thinking without burying the core idea under too many systems. The main mechanic revolves around placing turrets wherever I want on the available ground tiles. I enjoyed this because defensive positioning actually matters. I have to think about where enemies are coming from, which areas need protection and how much space I want to leave for future structures. The freedom to design my own defensive layout gives the game more personality than a tower defense where everything can only be placed in fixed spots. The enemies also keep me thinking because different types of mutated bugs attack in different ways. I cannot simply build a single line of identical defenses and expect it to work forever. A really good game.

Fun defense game. Yes the AI tactics are a bit foreseeable but a free fun romp when you have time to spare nonetheless. Passable menu interface and keys (wish there was a windowed mode and window resize option). Did I mention it was free?

after 2 hours and multiple crashes, which shouldn't happen with a game this simplistic, i beat the game. its a free game though.
