About Operation: Surface Takeover

Take back the Earth in a high-stakes action RTS where humanity fights for survival. Battle swarms of giant, radiation-mutated bugs as you reclaim the surface with advanced technology, tactical turret placement, and strategic defenses. Every decision counts as you push back the infestation and fight to restore what was lost.
  • In this game, you have access to turrets that can be placed on any ground tile—design your base however you want.
  • Your mission: defend headquarters at all costs.
  • Enemies will come in waves from spawners, each with different methods of attack, so stay vigilant.
  • Be careful—they can even destroy the structures you’ve placed.
  • With a 10-level campaign and an endless mode to truly test your skills… the question is, can you handle it?

Operation: Surface Takeover, developed by Alex Corneillie and published by Rabid Trolls Studios, is a compact strategy experience that blends real-time tactical decision-making with tower defense fundamentals. Set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic scenario where humanity attempts to reclaim territory overrun by hostile insect-like creatures, the game focuses less on storytelling and more on the immediacy of survival. It establishes its identity quickly: build, defend, adapt, and endure. While the premise is familiar, the way it compresses its mechanics into a tight, gameplay-driven loop gives it a distinct, if limited, appeal. The core gameplay centers on constructing defenses and holding off waves of increasingly aggressive enemies. Players are given the freedom to place walls and turrets across the map, shaping the battlefield rather than simply reacting to it. This flexibility is where the game differentiates itself from more traditional tower defense titles, which often rely on fixed paths. Here, the layout is entirely up to the player, and success depends on how effectively choke points, defensive lines, and turret coverage are established. This adds a layer of tactical planning t…

Fun defense game. Yes the AI tactics are a bit foreseeable but a free fun romp when you have time to spare nonetheless. Passable menu interface and keys (wish there was a windowed mode and window resize option). Did I mention it was free?

after 2 hours and multiple crashes, which shouldn't happen with a game this simplistic, i beat the game. its a free game though.

Not much of an effort here, it all works, but it's simply no fun. The first map looked to have potential, with a map designed for trying to path the ants around and extend their route, but they just to straight towards the end, and eat thru anything in the way. Yawn. Towers have no choices or decisions to be made, no targeting, no leveling, nothing. I think there will be more towers eventually, but for starters there are two, and one is a barrier. Why there is a barrier who there is no pathing however baffles me. The other is just a basic gun. There are no strategic upgrades or tactical abilities. Nothing. There is a little fluff, and it's cute, I like the jerk general who chats with you, but's it's just not enough. Shame, I feel like there was potential here, even free, not worth the time it takes to play. Thumbs down.
