Outsider is a handcrafted science fiction narrative game with hundreds of choices.You'll join my childhood friend Nando in online encounters with a woman claiming to be an extraterrestrial. As a world-class hacker, gamer, data hoarder and jokester extraordinaire, Nando travels the globe selling his security expertise to the highest bidder. But nothing could have prepared him for what awaited when he connected to a private chat room using a mysterious cube that arrived in the mail...Outsider is a game full of humor and drama for all-out geeks and sci-fi fans everywhere. You will play as Nando's inner voice and help him navigate his encounters with an extraterrestrial from a highly advanced civilization.Most of the gameplay unfolds within a chat interface. Your first goal is to help Nando determine whether "Mara" is truly who she claims to be... But how could an extraterrestrial prove their origin through online chat?Outsider's options are labeled with emojis that reflect the answers' tone and likely impact. Consequences unfold naturally; you don't need to fear getting locked out of an ending because of a "bad" choice.Reading options include multiple fonts (including a special Dyslexia-friendly one), adjustable text speed and fast-forward for a modern reading experience.Nando has unsettling dreams throughout the game. Are they telling him anything? Crack a challenging, but optional, metapuzzle and help him peel hidden layers from the mystery. Solving the puzzle uncovers an important secret, but you can save it for the next playthrough if you want.Game Features

this is a reading game with choices. i've always liked the old choice of games books and this is up that alley. being the voice inside someone's head is a good fertile field for ideas. i'm just starting but i appreciate it5 found this helpful
What an amazing story! The game is unlike anything I've ever played before. It's almost like a text-based choose your own adventure book but the choices seem to shape your overall perspective of the people and topics being discussed. It is very well-written and deeply engaging with interesting and nuanced characters. It feels like a slow start but it pays off. The game also appears to have more hidden under the surface with a puzzle that I haven't been able to solve... yet. I highly recommend!3 found this helpful
It's a text game in a form of a messaging chat, but I was captivated by the story and realized that I was getting attached to the characters despite never seeing them or hearing their voices. I had a wonderful time playing it and also enjoyed the humor in it.3 found this helpful
I was one of the play testers for Outsider. It took me about 12.6 h to go through the entire content, considering I'm a slow reader. The game mechanics is very different from anything I've seen, which was refreshing. The story also had a good progression. There was enough information to understand the story and pick up clues to where things were going, and the stories also introduced scientific concepts that I could look up if I wanted to learn more about. Another thing I appreciated about this game was that the chapters length were perfect to read for like 30min, in case you don't have much time to play in the day. So you can go through 2-3 chapters each day. Towards the end, I was reading 5+ chapters because I was hooked to the story. Overall, this game is worth your time and money. Addictive! A niche game, but I thought it was very well done! Believable dialogue, relatable characters, imaginative settings, and just a charming little plot line. You can tell the author put a lot of time into it. It's a story that lingers with you, well after you've played it. Thanks! :-)1 found this helpful
I really enjoyed this game. Initially I was hesitant because of the price (I think I paid around 10 bucks for it on sale), but then I thought, "You know what? A good book is worth that amount of money." And this is a good book. The characters were believable and enjoyable, and the pacing was good. I'm a medium-fast reader, and it took me around 8 or 9 hours to get through the story. Now I'm working on the optional puzzles. Pros: -Captivating, well-written story. -Accurate depictions of scientific concepts and early hacker culture, without being overwhelming for players less familiar with these topics. -I didn't notice a single typo or grammatical issue, and I'm sensitive to that sort of thing. Hats off to the developer for their QA.
