About The Away Team: Lost Exodus

You are the AI in charge of Earth's final interstellar spaceship, tasked with delivering your human crew to a suitable new home among the stars. The fate of previous ships is unknown--with a set of galactic maps to guide you, it's your job to decide which planets to visit, which crew to send down to the surface, and which choices they should make along the way. You are humanity's last hope.

Your choice matters!
Each of ten possible crew members has a distinct set of attributes, traits and flaws that will impact your chances, so choose wisely! With over 30 planets and stations to visit, over 700 choices to make, and near-infinite randomized sector maps to visit, there are countless paths to take across the galaxy.

A novel's worth of adventure!
Over 120,000 words of text across multiple playthroughs provide a rich storyline full of action, suspense, drama and horror. Can you find your way down all four paths to victory?

Customizable
Lua-based missions and json-based data files make writing and scripting your own missions simple, and creating new characters is a breeze with the in-game character creator. Write yourself into the game, or include your friends and see who survives.

Eat your crew
Food and fuel are hard to come by in deep space. Choose wisely but quickly in charting your course--when supplies run out, tough decisions will be in store, and cannibalism might be the only option...

"The Away Team: Lost Exodus" is at first value what you might see as one of the worst ripoffs of FTL ever made, but it's even worse than that (somehow). Instead the whole space exploration bit is a very shallow veneer bolted onto what amounts to a Choose Your Own Adventure book with just a few hints of Oregon Trail on it. The idea is you pick a crew of pixelcrap spacemen and go on a space trip looking after the last humans alive. You make CYOA decisions and click through to see what ending you get. Did I mention how bad the writing is? Real cringe high school sci-fi club dropout fan-fiction stuff. So, it's hard to describe this as a game, the focus is more like that of an e-book/visual novel, there's only minor, shallow and uninteresting gameplay elements. The crux of this is to push some very low quality, badly done fan-fiction tier writing, where we see once more a developer fail to understand the importance of "Show, don't tell", and for whatever reason, weren't able to convey their narrative through gameplay, giving us endless lines of badly written e-book text instead. My gaming rig is not a kindle. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics …

This game is a bit more like an interactive novel than a fully interactive game, but I really love what they've done with it. The story is very engaging and stays with you after you played it. It reminded me a bit of In Other Waters.

While the game's current state leaves much to be desired, this analysis illuminates the potential and operational advantages that a polished UI/UX could offer, particularly when viewed through the lens of addressing broader human interaction challenges: The game's interface and experience, despite their current shortcomings, hint at the untapped potential for a more tactile, "clicky and gritty" user experience that could revolutionize interactive storytelling. Unlike traditional visual novels, this platform already incorporates a space-adventure setting, offering a unique environment for dynamic narrative progression and user engagement. The interface allows for a level of user interaction that goes beyond simple text choices, potentially incorporating multimedia elements such as audio cues, visual overlays, or dynamic animations to further enrich the existing space-adventure storytelling. These enhancements could elevate the interactive fiction experience, making it more immersive and engaging within its established sci-fi context. Improved informational feedback could further enhance player understanding and immersion by providing contextually relevant details about choices and…
