Paws & Effect features a small, but a colorful cast of characters, including but not limited to the following:
An aspiring lawyer, Sadie (name customizable) is intelligent and caring, albeit with a sardonic impulse. She's unsure about her life's direction -- and doubly so when the whole thing goes off the rails. Beset by problems new and old, how will she keep it together?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadie's good friend from college, Diya is just as ready to help out as she is to throw shade. With her sharp instincts, she knows something is up - and she won't let Sadie leave her in the dark about her new "friends". Whether she can handle the truth is another matter...--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadie is still recovering from her break-up with Vincent, her skinny Australian boyfriend for the last year. Things seemed to be great until they discovered their diverging opinions about keeping pets, which prompted the separation, but old flames sometimes burn longest... assuming her dogs don't snuff it out.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With a subdued demeanor and thoughtful gaze, Peaches (name customizable) is the more intellectual-seeming of Sadie's dog duo. Or maybe he just has the lax hubris of a creature that's been spoiled with treats and cuddles. He doesn't really care either way.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intensely loyal and obviously needy, Pecan (name customizable) is a girl's best friend - as long as you stay out of her war path. Her obsessive love for Sadie is matched only by her distaste for Peaches, but her true fixation is the sky and all the evil it harbors. Y'know, birds, planes, space. What Steam players say

This game is very humorous at times, the dialogue is very well written, and it's a pretty fun experience overall. The art is very cute, I also liked the voicing and music. The plot in the long run was weird, and though plenty about the game was enjoyable none of the endings really satisfied. So much of the game feels really neat and refined but for some reason, after playing through it completely I feel like the game was a little shallow. Since I did purchase this on sale it was very much worth the price, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to play something light and silly.3 found this helpful
Put on the SFW option and it took the censor bars away for a lame joke, showed me and my entire youth group some nippleless freaks and then crashed a stream bc it wasn't sfw on the sfw option. Rude, unexpected, the youth group has converted to an entirely separate religion to attempt to find solace there.2 found this helpful
There are some minor problems, like settings that is not actually working. It's impossible to turn of sound fully, when you try game fully restarting, sometimes it's just freezing on black screen. It's simply sad and ruining immersion. For the narrative part, I truly don't understand why you decide to add "scientists" to the plot. If it was a twist for the second game with it's own lore, it would be great. But for now it's like an additional comic relief, that kinda out of place? The story is heartwarming and hilarious. Art very colorful and attractive. In general it's a very good, lighthearted story that I suggest to give a go1 found this helpful
painfully written. It has writing issues where you can tell this was written by one person and it shows. Not that it's a bad thing to be written by one person, but if you know what I mean by this you'll know what I mean, like it's a first draft that's a stream of consciousness, there isn't checking. That can still be appealing, but I don't like their style and honestly the way they think of dogs and people...
Paws and Effect is an unapologetically quirky, character-driven visual novel that blends absurd comedy with moments of genuine emotional reflection. Developed by Shimmersoft and published by Sedoc LLC, the game builds its entire identity around a premise that sounds like a joke but gradually reveals surprising thematic depth: two beloved dogs suddenly turn into humans, and their owner is forced to help them navigate adulthood, responsibility, and personal identity while her own life is already on shaky ground. The story follows Sadie, a struggling law graduate whose life is unraveling due to professional uncertainty, strained relationships, and emotional burnout. Just as things seem unmanageable, reality takes a sharp left turn when her dogs transform into adult humans overnight. What initially feels like pure comedic chaos quickly becomes the engine for a narrative about caretaking, self-worth, and the awkward transition into adulthood. The game uses the dogs’ literal unfamiliarity with human norms as a clever narrative mirror, highlighting how arbitrary and overwhelming modern adult life can feel even to those who are supposedly prepared for it. Short, adorable, and funny. I laughed out loud a couple of times, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
