Warning: Asset Flip! Ragnarok Chess is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper took a bunch of Synty low poly assets and slapped them on a basic Unity chess template. This is a pattern for this developer, a prolific asset flipper, stealing the work of others and putting his own name on it. He's done this dozens of times now, a deluge of valueless asset flip scams polluting Steam. This particular asset flip is no different. It has n…

i barely played chess in my life, but this game is actually pretty good, and above all, fun and a bit addictive. it gives the player motivation to keep playing to unlock the "skins" and maps. of course, everything free under the "paying" method of effort. +15 for being based on the asatru.

The AI is kind of dumb even on the advanced difficulty. Some of the rules were either ignored or forgotten, I played 10 games and in at least 3 of them, the opposing king was able to castle despite of the queen or bishops cutting off its path. The viking aesthetic is really cool, though. More unlockable skins would be appreciated, but for 1.99 it's good enough. Like I said earlier my only gripe is that this game doesn't follow all chess rules to a T.

+ Chess with Viking pieces and environments + Lots of things to unlock + Great sound effects on capture + Discounted price (~$1) +/- medium difficulty is not that difficult - No assists (no take back) - No controller support (Local two-player game is difficult) - No cloud game save. Progress cannot be saved in between two different laptops/devices
