RE-ANIMATED is a 15-minute meditative and guided VR experience, that brings memories of the extinct Kaua‘i ʻōʻō bird, and its lost Hawaiian habitat, back to life. Biological traces of the bird and recordings of its final 1975 mating call, turn into a magical-realist portrait. You enter an ecosystem suspended in time.
AN INTERPLAY BETWEEN BIOLOGY AND TECHNOLOGY
Created with special access to the American Museum of Natural History and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s restricted archives, the artwork bridges natural history and digital imagination. The experience is based on an interview with ornithologist Douglas H. Pratt, who was one of the last to see the bird when alive. [h1]Experienced on the Meta Quest 3[/h1] Despite the disclaimer on the Steam store page about using Meta link, you do NOT need to use it. It works perfectly fine using Virtual Desktop, although Steam VR is forced upon us (with link or VD). This is a 15 minute, 360, purely cinematic, artistic experience. You do NOT need motion controllers. Ostensibly, this VR experience is about the extinction of the Kaua’i ʻōʻō bird. Sure, there are some images of the corpse of the extinct bird. However, this is a very abstract artistic piece. It reminded me of Frankenstein. It has a claymation, stop-motion vibe. Sort of a cross between Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, except with more realistic textures. I don't know what to think of this artistic piece. I left confused. Was this really about an extinct bird? It felt grotesque (not in a bad way necessarily, more in an artistic manner). Maybe that was the point. I think it was just too abstract for me. I thought I'd at least get to see the bird re-animated realistically, just not like that. [b]Rate ?/10.[/b] [quote]I bought this game!
