"The idea of taxing brain-teasers against such a delightfully creepy canvas is really appealing, and I want more." - Sarah Leboeuf, Mashable
"Looks like a Tim Burton Myst Survival Game." - Destin Legarie, IGN
"While the puzzles were challenging, they were not impossible. That is the beauty of Realm... With very little dialogue, it tells a clear and concise story that isn’t overburdened by cut-scenes and allows the player to become completely enveloped in it." - Nika Howard, Geekly Inc
What horrible beasts we can make ourselves be in our minds — TheAudio, circa 2022
REalM Walk of Soul employs the show, don't tell approach for its storytelling, which I adore. I like not being treated like a toddler incapable of understanding subtext and needing everything to be spoon-fed to me. So, I was delighted to see this twisted, nightmarish world ingrained with symbolism, metaphors, and subtle hints which slowly revealed themselves to me. Besides the visual aid, the game draws from many other avenues to tell its story — collectables description, creepy homemade short videos, NPCs design, and sporadic dialogue. It all comes together to tell the tale of our heroine, Iris. Who is she, why is she in this bizarre world, and what dark secrets lurk deep within her heart? All your questions will be answered when the credits roll for the nth time. Yes, multiple playthroughs are required to fully comprehend the tale of Iris. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2935747138 But this is where I'll stop any form of story discussion altogether. Memories warm you up from the inside, but they also tear you up. Realm feels like a mix between Incubo and Yume Nikki. The game is somewhat edgy, if you couldnt tell. Exploration is fun, and theres for every cycle more to explore. Once you beat the game it starts anew, where the puzzles and layouts change. The puzzles range from super easy, to super annoying, to super cryptic. You can get hints and solutions for puzzles later on, but weirdly enough that options only there for the easy ones, and it also consumes a collectable, which it doesnt tell you beforehand. I wasnt able to beat the second cycle because I couldnt solve the puzzle to enter the city, and it also has no hint/solution option for you, just sucks honestly, it feels like a total guessing game. Exploration and visuals are awesome, but many puzzles are just way too tedious to figure out. I personally cant recommend it due to that, but credit to this unique game either way. I'm having trouble with second return puzzle nearing after passing half of each and almost finishing the robo city. I'm going to keep trying and see what I get. Pretty good but some puzzles are really cryptic and it's giving me a run for my money but I don't want use memory's to get the answer to some of them
