I tried my hardest to like this girls but it just felt very lacking to me. The art direction and visuals of the game are really impressive and very beautiful, especially the dreams. However, it does seem like a lot of these have been taken from their influences and have been squished to make them fit in with the game and it ends up coming across very empty and uninspired. The plot doesn't really seem to go anywhere either and leaves quite a lot of loose ends. Very poor depiction of mental illness in both Gloria and Bob imo. The dream sequences don't seem to have any real impact on the overarching plot besides establishing symbolism. And the symbolism sucks because its so heavy handed that it looses all impact. The mini games are also unintuitive and poorly configured so it's not very fun to play. I feel bad writing a negative review because the game has such a brilliant vision, its just quite poorly executed2 found this helpful
Strongly recommended: Decarnation
Decarnation: (noun) The act of removing flesh, divesting of the physical body, or putting aside carnal and worldly desires I've never really been a big horror guy, but in the past few years I've tried to broaden my horizons a bit, and that also includes spooky movies and games. One of those games is Decarnation, a title I first learned about from a games YouTuber I follow. After his glowing recommendation, I promptly wishlisted the game, only to then immediately forget about it. Ultimately, this was a bit of a blessing in disguise. By the time I got around to buying and playing it, I already forgot pretty much everything I saw in the review, which allowed me to see the game with a fresh pair of eyes. The story of Decarnation follows Gloria, a cabaret dancer in 1989 Paris. Nearing her 30th birthday, Gloria is already starting to feel the "weight" of her age: the manager of the cabaret she works at wants her to quit performing and become a dancing coach, her mother is expecting her to settle down and take bigger career steps, and her much youn…2 found this helpful
Interesante historia. Jugabilidad y retos bastante suaves. Sin embargo, me dejo un sabor dulce/amargo, muchas veces se torno en algo tedioso pero al mismo tiempo tenía curiosidad por saber como terminaba todo. Prácticamente un terror psicológico super lento...1 found this helpful
THIS IS A THUMBS IN THE MIDDLE. I was contemplating for a while if I still should give it a thumbs up or down, but we'll get to that. Took me ~6.2 hours to complete for a first playthrough, 7/15 Achievements. (I will talk about the Achievements a bit later and spoiler tag them...) So let's get the good out of the way first: The artstyle/detail is fantastic, so are the animations and the few locations that are here, are interesting. Akira Yamaoka contributed to it and it shows because the atmosphere in some sections was really good. That's it. And keep in mind, this is my personal opinion, it doesn't mean someone else can't find more "enjoyment" here. Regarding the Soundtrack apart from Akira Yamaoka, it just wasn't my cup of tea. For the most part I really disliked it. Gameplay was kinda sprinkled in very sparingly. Basically Decarnation is a 2D-Isometric-Movie-like-Walking Simulator with not even a handful puzzles strewn in and a few QTE and "Rhythm" Sections. I have to admit, most of the time I was bored out of my mind. The Youtuber RagnarRox praised this Game and usually I am at least intrigued, but here, nothing. I felt nothing apart from boredom. The story didn't gra…
Legitimately nauseating experience. Simple on the surface, but between compelling characterisation and increasingly weird visions I found it legitimately effective. There's less body horror in it than the first impressions would have you believe but the body horror that was present was welcome, I really like how the game looks, and it does a lot with its technically limited setting as well as using the medium for some occasional interesting twists on its own established mechanics. The one thing really holding it back it the ending, which is somehow too hopeful and too... obvious. Needed to be quieter and have a more balanced tone, it just all felt a bit unfitting. Would've been a great ending had it cut off at an earlier line, or cut the club scene and given the dialogue in the final scene a more bittersweet flavour (and not brought back that motif song, I'd have preferred to just sit with the swirl of emotions). Still, worth a play, but definitely a tough one to get through, though at the same time I couldn't really put it down.
