RED is a small free action game that puts its own spin on Little Red Riding Hood. I play as Red as she makes her way through a dangerous forest to visit her grandmother, but instead of simply following the usual fairy tale, I have to fight through monsters that are trying to stop her. It is a simple setup, but I like that the game turns a story I already know into a short side scrolling action adventure. The combat is the main thing I am doing here. Red can fight her way through enemies using a mixture of attacks, and the game has a fairly straightforward hack and slash feel to it. I do not have to spend a long time learning complicated systems before I can get into the action. That works well for a smaller game like this because I can concentrate on moving through the forest, dealing with enemies and seeing what is waiting further ahead. I also like the way the game uses the Little Red Riding Hood setting. The forest gives it a clear identity, and the monsters make the familiar story feel more like a small fantasy adventure. The anime influenced character designs are quite different from the traditional fairy tale imagery, but I think that helps the game feel like its own thing.…

lovely game in a chaos world

"RED" is a student project from somewhere in China. One of the first things students should be taught in game development is that 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid 1990's with dedicated 3D cards like the Voodoo3 and the ATI Rage. But the students were deliberately mistaught that's it's okay to release obsolete 2D games in the 3D era of gaming... certainly any professional developer seeing a prospective new hire who doesn't even know about 3D gaming probably isn't going to give them a job. Needless to say if an educational institution taught me incorrectly on purpose, I'd ask for my money back. Anyway, the students made a really, really poor quality 2D side scrolling platformer/brawler with a very, very distorted intepretation of the "Little Red Riding Hood" fairy tale, where you take on the role of "Red" and go hack up some monsters on the way to visit your grandmother.
