About Red Eclipse
✦ AI summary
Red Eclipse is a fast-paced arena shooter packed with parkour, impulse boosts, and seven unique weapons, completely free and open source with zero microtransactions. Built on the modern Tesseract engine by volunteers, it offers dynamic lighting, real-time co-op map editing, and over 15 years of active development with a community-driven approach to gameplay.
An arena shooter for the modern era; released as free and open source software.
Red Eclipse builds on its own legacy of fast-paced unique, impactful gameplay and combines that with the visual capabilities of the superb and modern Tesseract engine to create a game that redefines what a first person shooter is.
There is absolutely no money whatsoever behind this project, and the entirety of the assets and source code are freely available to copy, modify, and redistribute. The entirety of the game is built on the contributions of volunteers, from the engine (which does not trace its heritage to any commercial studio) to the assets, levels, modes, user interfaces, and maps. We do not recieve lucrative income from selling skins or lootboxes or any microtransactions, and the servers and infrastructure is graciously run and maintained by volunteers.
This game is built on the Tesseract engine, written by one of our developers, Lee Salzman. Tesseract is a modern, deferred pipeline engine with realtime dynamic lighting, shadows, HDR, screenspace reflection, and dynamic organic model deformation. Tesseract and its predecessors, Cube and Cube 2, are all built from the ground up as open source engines with more permissive licensing than essentially every other 3D engine available.
In a "by the people, for the people" nature, we try to work closely with our community and invite everyone to have their say in order to provide a better overall experience, aiming to create a game environment that is fun and easy to play, while still having elements to master. If you think you might have something to contribute to the game or community, please feel free to talk to us. We maintain a standard of friendly behaviour in our community, so don't be afraid to speak up and have your say in building this game for us all!

devs are bigoted ai bros :(2 found this helpful
I found this game through Jauwn's video on it, and I found his video pretty later than most everyone else - ah, the joys of YouTube rabbit holes, right? The game itself is fine, and the developer is to be commended for their work in organizing a community that has been around in one form or another for over a decade. Also, I noticed this on the store page: "There is absolutely no money whatsoever behind this project, and the entirety of the assets and source code are freely available to copy, modify, and redistribute. The entirety of the game is built on the contributions of volunteers, from the engine (which does not trace its heritage to any commercial studio) to the assets, levels, modes, user interfaces, and maps. This sounds awfully, as the kids say these days, based. I'd say give it a shot simply because of this alone, if only to encourage other devs to do likewise. Seriously appreciated these days, real talk. However, the problem, and why I can't recommend Red Eclipse, is that it's a dead game. I…1 found this helpful
They ruined the game. The old version of the game was more fun and looked better1 found this helpful
Unfortunately the game is VERY dead but it'll work if you get your friends, preferably 5 of em. For a movement shooter-ish arena shooter, it does its job. Yeah its not the smoothest at times but the game itself was made by 2 main dudes and a TON of people from the community, so it's a game by its niche fans, for its niche fans. My personal favorite aspect of the game is its soundtrack (especially the main menu theme, I could go hours just listening to it alone), as each map has its own unique theme, and it really makes each individual map feel just a bit more personal when you hear the same song for the 5th time. overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10, but with bias definitely a 9.5/10. I didn't describe the game as well as a real game reviewer would though.1 found this helpful
Red Eclipse is basically better Quake with better guns and level editing. Surprisingly decent bots and offline play for when servers are quiet. 10/10
Gameplay is Like Pixel 3D Gun I Like The Game Including The New UI Engine Despite The Game Was Made in Source Engine However I Dont Like The Maps Because of Balanced Issue And The Problem I Found Most of The Maps Are Small That Players Can Die Very Quickly
