About Renegade Grounds: Episode 1

Synopsis:

Something very important was stolen from the council – a high value item required for a new device that could bridge the gap between the physical realm and the realm of phantoms. Who did this and why is unknown, but the city guard hired two mercenaries to find and retrieve this item in return for a hefty sum – Agela, a young, somewhat brash, and quick-witted archer, and her smarty pants imp sidekick Ingus.

Agela and Ingus will have to infiltrate their way into crime-ridden slums, as well as a whole host of underground and treacherous locations in order to get the job done. On their journey they are guided by a phantom ally, Angadani, who appears from time to time to update them with useful information. A simple fetch job quickly becomes more complex as more factions become involved and set their eyes on the precious item. It's more than they bargained for, but to Agela and Ingus, giving up is not an option!

Features:
 • Not your typical fantasy setting. Medieval look and non-human races, but more with a modern day dynamic – gangs, crime-infested slums, city councils instead of kings in castles, and science instead of magic.
 • Strategic turn-based battle system which includes skills with unique areas of effect.
 • Fully voice acted
 • Weapon and Armour upgrading – find specific items which can be used to add a variety of stat bonuses to your equipment, but do so wisely, because each weapon and armour has a limited number of upgrade slots.
 • First part of a larger story
 • In addition to story mode, challenge yourself with consecutive battles in arena mode
 • Two difficulty modes: Normal and Brazen
 • Puzzles to solve and secret areas to find!

No, do not waste your time or your money, if I was to rate this game on a 1-100 scale I would give it a 38/100 and if they were to add more chapters, it might get a 40/100. It isnt even worth a dollar because its simply too basic, as if someone kept all default settings on an RPG auto-generator. The story, combat and upgrading systems are as basic as the graphics and voice acting, nothing memorable and nothing about the game stirs up any sort of nostalgia. It simply isnt charming, memorable or even a little deep and I cannot recall having felt more let down by how basic a game was since I beat Dragon Warrior 1 again as an adult. I am not even going to say the game has promise, because there isnt an area where they showed even the slightest hint of greatness.

Warning: Broken Game!
This game has design/implementation defects that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game fails to launch and while the "developer" provided a workaround (instead of fixing the problem!), the workaround doesn't work. The developer is aware of this and chooses not to remediate the problem. If you decide to buy this game anyway, be aware it may not work. Renegade Grounds: Episode 1 is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. If the game did work, you would find that, as with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass a…

I like the weapon and armor upgrade system its quite fun, interesting characters, navigating is a bit annoying with mouse but its nice to be able to use just a mouse. As a rule I wont even buy episodic games anymore, seems they rarely get finished but there does seem to be an episode 2

I found this very boring. No real story, just missions (aka kill them)
