About Safe Squares

Safe Squares is a chess-based puzzle game designed to hone your tactical skills. Each puzzle features enemy pieces on a board; your goal is to spot the unguarded square. Great for novice players and experts alike. Choose your difficulty level and sharpen your game!

Puzzles start simple and gradually increase in complexity. For novice players, there are unlimited chances to find the safe square. For advanced players, there are aggressive time and accuracy challenges.

In addition to standard chess pieces, Safe Squares introduces non-standard pieces for an extra challenge. You can dodge bishops and knights, but what about amazons and cardinals?

In "Practice" mode, you can set your own parameters and solve endless puzzles without time or accuracy constraints. Learn to recognize common formations and how to avoid them.

While Safe Squares is designed to be a fun stand-alone game, it is also a great tool for chess education. If you want to level up your skills, Safe Squares is a great place to start!

Glad that I bought it. I'm just effectively working with my emotions while playing this game. These puzzles are organized in such a way that I'm feeling nervous when solving - so after completing I can close my eyes and reflect on my thoughts and emotions. So you can really help yourself if you buy.

"Safe Squares" is a rather pointless Chess puzzle game where you have to identify which squares aren't under threat in very simple Chess derived scenarios. The developer wanted you to pay money for this at some stage. Were they not aware that you can play Chess for free in a web browser? I wonder why this was such a dismal failure. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $3 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it …
