Players appreciate Save the Settlers as a casual, budget-friendly tower defense game with some fun mechanics, especially when purchased on sale, but criticize it for being oversimplified with minimal strategic depth where success mainly comes from spamming units rather than tactical decision-making. The game is also noted as unpolished and lacking replay value, with limited enemy variety and level design that fails to create meaningfully different challenges. Additionally, some players report translation issues despite claims of 30-language support.
Save the Settlers is a compact tower defense experience developed and published by Gamesforgames that focuses on straightforward strategic gameplay and accessible mechanics. Rather than attempting to revolutionize the genre, the game embraces the familiar formula of defending a vulnerable settlement against waves of monsters while introducing enough tactical variety to keep players engaged. Its premise is simple: hostile creatures are advancing toward your village, and it is your responsibility to organize defenses, deploy troops, and use special abilities to ensure the survival of the settlers under your protection. The heart of the game lies in its layered defensive system. Players are not limited to placing towers and waiting for enemies to fall. Alongside traditional defensive structures, Save the Settlers allows the recruitment of specialized soldiers who serve different battlefield roles. Some excel at dealing ranged damage from a safe distance, while others contribute through support skills such as healing allies or slowing approaching enemies. This combination of active troop management and static defenses creates a more dynamic battlefield than many budget tower defense t…1 found this helpful
ok so this is a very cheap game, i bought for 49p on sale so wasnt expecting much, that being said just because something is cheap it doesnt mean it has the right to be terrible, this game is very fun and simple, yes if you spam magicians you will win every level but once you realise this and challenge yourself to try and do it without magicians it gets quite fun, its a good little kill some time game and its definitely alot better than alot of cheaper games available
Bit unpolished, but it's a fun little romp of a game! Note: used the guide to complete levels 7-10. Note2: got it on sale for half off.
I love tower defence but I think this game is too simple and has some issues as well. The enemies spawn on the sides of the map and walk straight towards the camp, your units also spawn into one of the two portals (random) and walk towards the enemy spawns. This is my first tower defence where you spam units and towers as soon as the cooldown finishes and overwhelm the enemy by sheer amount of friendly mobs. I personally don't like that there isn't much strategy involved as every level is beat by spamming all of my units. I liked that there were different designs for levels (but mostly was the grasslands) just would've loved for it to matter. As well as all the enemies don't feel distinct enough even though they looked different. I feel like adding more levels wouldn't do much as the core gameplay loop isn't satisfying enough. Very minimal amount of towers (only three) and you cannot upgrade them. Every upgrade for the units and powers are very shallow, just a +1 to their stats. Why does the healer's damage increase with its upgrade? Doesn't make much sense to me. I would say it is a great start but definitely needs a lot more work to be fun. Also note for the developer if you …
No replay value, but I liked going through this game. When its on sale for $1, you can't go wrong.
Paid less than a buck, with that in mind, one thumb up. That said, it really feels unfinished. The core of any game is in the decisions the player gets to make, and this one has some, but not enough. For example on level one I ended up with four kinds of units, but there was nothing to be decided about them. They can reappear based on a timer, and all I have to do is click a button to summon them. I can't pick which portal they come in at, which would be nice, nor can I decide where they go. More interesting are the traps, because you get to decide where they show up, but that's about it. Periodically you get a choice to upgrade a unit type or a trap type, which is nice, but nothing special. You get two kinds of towers, both are sadly very fragile and die pretty quickly. The map has paths on it, but except as marking entry points, they mean nothing, monsters don't see to have to follow them. There are no strategic options, no between level upgrades or anything. And while not everyone cares, some fluff would be nice, especially as they have the gall to call it an RPG, when it isn't really even much of a tower defense game. Or sports. Or a simulation. Or even an adventure. That …
