Shooting Game KARI

[h1] Shooter that feels kinda basic but gets the job done. Waves of enemies are ok and not boring. Visual aspect is rather mediocre. Difficulty is a bit challenging by the end but doable. Main con is no continues or some allowing to repeat stage and at least see the whole game. Overall for a free game it's not that bad but I would recommend it only to shoot'em up fans otherwise stir away. [/h1]

Takes me back to being on the family computer in 1999, finding a cool looking freeware game I’d never seen before, waiting the couple hours it took the 56k to download, and having fun with it for the rest of the day. Shooting Game Kari is simple by today’s standards, and even for its time—2 shot buttons, no focus/lockshot/slow mode, not even a bomb. Its graphics are quite basic, as is its scoring system. And it’s a hell of a lot of fun. Bullet patterns never quite reach true bullet hell, but they can be dense enough to give you a challenge. The stage 4 boss’s homing lasers aren’t your standard tap-dodge-and-forget fare—you need to really look at where they’re going. And the soundtrack, man I love this soundtrack. Every track is good, but the Stage 5 music sounds like the most cheerful 90s anime theme you’ve ever heard. Brings a smile to my face every time I hear it, even knowing the boss is about to kill me. This port is also a really nice package. There’s a one-screen info sheet that tells you basically everything you need to know. There’s an alternate soundtrack you can listen to if you’re crazy enough to get tired of the default. And it works perfectly on the Steam Deck. …

"Shooting Game KARI" is a revamp of an old abandonware shmup made in the 1990's and now it's here on Steam for free, which is a nice gesture I guess, but you can't go home again. It plays okay but this is no 1942 or Raiden or any of those other classics. It was a "me too" back then and it's aged quite poorly. Since the controls can't be customized, this makes the game inaccessible for a wide range of gamers, including those who are left-handed, have physical impairments, or use international keyboard layouts. Developers have a responsibility to ensure gamers can customise their experience with the game. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of [b]only 14 players[/b], it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. 8 stages to beat and only one life. Are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me? Shmups are one of the most hardcore genres out there, but that's absurd. I enjoy it's music, it's artstyle and it's gameplay but I just cannot recommend something like this due to such a terrible feature.

This is a very fun, but challenging SHMUP game. This game really got me more into playing more SHMUP games. If want to unlock all of the achievements in this game, this game will be worth your time.
