im not sold on games that sacrifice clarity to style. does it look cool? -yes. is it possible to understand what is exactly happening on screen at a given moment? - mostly no. and that is my main problem - background and foreground and enemies and bullets and cosmetic parts and functional parts of the stage, all of them blending together too well; most of the time its not possible to understand why something happened on screen. theres an explosion - is it the enemy? is it some element? will it destroy enemies, or is it cosmetic? under hundreds of similarly looking sprites i have no idea. usually in those types of games, background and cosmetic elements are made with different resolutions or color tones or are desaturated - so it would be more convenient for the eye to see whats going on, when "something" is happening for unclear reasons, why would i care for it then? when difficulty is borne not from challenging gameplay systems or reaction checks etc, but from unclarity and inconvenience, i view that as universally bad. There are some other problems - hit registration is unreliable, replays mostly dont work , and some resolutions cause the game to crash etc , but those a…
Great game, terrible port. DFK is a wonderful game but there are so many technical issues that I can't recommend buying this port. Here's what I encountered personally (on Windows): - Replay desync: Desync destroyed my first 2-ALL 1CC replay. - PC freezing: The game soft-locked my entire PC when switching between full-screen and windowed modes. Unplayable with multiple monitor setup. Alt-tabbing out is a death sentence. This happened on multiple computers. - Screen tearing despite V-Sync enabled. - Bullet slowdown feature isn't consistent with other versions of the game (XBOX360 ver is the gold standard). Maybe buy it as a license to play when on sale, then go get the arcade version.
A very good port with many game modes.
