Sisyphus's Worst Day (again)

Another free game that is just a cute little proof of concept type of game. I like the humour, the puzzles weren't too difficult, and the background artwork was a real treat. Not much that can be said because its a really short game. However, I suggest playing it with company, as the humour is worth sharing with others.

I really wanted to like this and tried to give it the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, I could not get the resolution to stay at an appropriate one to allow me to access the user interface. Attempting to change the resolution or to/from windowed mode was not working for me while inside the level. The changes did seem to stick when done on the main menu, but leaving a level or otherwise returning to the main menu seemed to change settings again leaving the UI unusable. That said, I have a both a dual monitor setup and my primary monitor is an ultrawide so these issues could be more unique to me than might otherwise appear.

The biggest strength of Sisyphus's Worst Day is its concept. Using a well-known myth as the foundation gives the game a clear identity, and the idea of fighting against an impossible task creates a feeling that fits the theme perfectly. The repetition is not just a mechanic; it is part of the message the game is trying to deliver. The gameplay is simple but effective. The challenge comes from improving your own performance, learning the obstacles, and slowly getting better. When you finally make progress after many failed attempts, the reward feels meaningful because the game has made you work for it. The atmosphere is another strong point. The game creates a feeling of frustration, determination, and persistence that matches the story of Sisyphus. Wow awesome game. Hype. I feel like Sisyphus

IDK, I'd have given this a B. Graphically it's fine, just being able to rotate the camera is slightly impressive, but you never needed to as a puzzle solution so it was kind of a waste. The traps resetting their facing whenever you wanted to move them was a tad annoying, as was the one softlock I encountered when the game would count the boulder as out of play and fail the level even when there was a respawn panel. And I know it was a bug because I restarted and used the same exact solution and it worked the second time. And that final level... leaves a lot to be desired as the "end" of the game. I just think it goes beyond needing a little polish to needing to be completed before handing in and publishing. But it's a free Uni project, so I can't really say I don't recommend it at that price. Just that it's not A grade work.
