About SOG: Vietnam

Welcome to Vietnam, son!

Step into the shoes of a MACV-SOG specialist during the Second Indochina War in a turn-based, tactical, old-school 2D roguelite!Every mission is a brutal new challenge! Each raid demands adaptability and cunning, as you’ll need to develop your character from scratch every time, building an invincible tactic. Use every tool at your disposal to complete your objectives: blend in with the surroundings, establish contacts with locals, explore the dangerous world while hiding in the shadows of the jungle, or wreak havoc, crushing enemies along your path with every available means! Remember, the ultimate goal is to survive and make it back to base, because death wipes out all progress made during the raid!

Crush enemies in the “signature style” of the U.S. Army in Vietnam

Make full use of all the resources the U.S. military has to offer! Air cavalry support, artillery and blazing napalm will not let you or the damn Charlies get bored! Your arsenal includes: a standard loadout of a military specialist, as well as napalm, of course, artillery, C4, combat grenades, tripwires, various types of weapons, and more!

Explore the hostile jungle

The Vietnamese jungle is filled with dangers and mysteries. A helicopter will drop you into a procedurally generated map covered in dense foliage, where each step could be your last. Carefully survey every section of the terrain—you never know what's ahead: a treacherous trap, an enemy lying in ambush, or a wild animal ready to attack. Missions will require reconnaissance and exploration, so be prepared for a thorough examination of this unpredictable world.

Prepare your soldier and collect trophies

Carefully review your mission objectives, weigh your options, and consider: should you bring more rations to avoid starving, or a charge of C4 for devastating sabotage? Skillfully allocate ability points and choose perks that will help you achieve your operation’s goals most effectively. This will allow you to experiment with different playstyles for each sortie. Sneak through the night, sabotaging enemy communications, or charge into open combat, mowing down everything in your path. It’s up to you to choose the path to become a legendary special forces veteran!

Come back alive, the jungle doesn’t forgive mistakes!

If you successfully complete the operation and evacuate alive, you’ll earn well-deserved rewards: medals and new perks that open up more strategies for future missions. Rest at a cozy fire base, chat with your fellow soldiers, and head back into the cursed jungle, because this war will never end otherwise! Come back alive, son, no matter what...

Welcome to hell!

Yeah, landing in the "land of tigers", you've gotten yourself into quite a mess! Progressing through the game, you'll realize that the positions and actions of both sides of the conflict are not so clear-cut...Taking a break from combat sorties, you'll be able to touch upon the story of an ordinary guy from the US Army who fell in love with a Vietnamese girl, find out why the hero of this story turned out so handsome, and by finding various "items with a history" much – much more. War is not only a collective tragedy, but also the personal drama of every participant...

Key Features:

  • High replayability that provides a unique experience in every sortie
  • Wide range of actions and equipment for completing tasks
  • Dynamic system of progression and rewards, allowing you to develop your character in your own style
  • Living, reactive world that responds to your every action

This is... something different. It is a roguelike first and foremost, but themed around special operations in the vietnam jungles. So how does that work? Well, overall it works well, it is very satisfying when things come togheter and you manage to pull off a daring mission, but it is a very punishing game, and it relies heavily on RNG. You have 5 different skills with a rating of 0 to 5 stars. You get a few stars into each skill randomly or none at all and this affects your base success chance. The game does help you by giving you a couple boosts to your next attempt at a certain action if you fail, but you're often having to choose between combat skills or support skills that keep you from falling into traps, being able to remain hidden and finding supplies such as food. Oh yes, by the way, if the enemy's bullets don't get you, hunger will. I honestly found it too punishing since your satiety is lower than your maximum health and it drains constantly, so, if you don't find supplies, even if your run is going well, you might just die of hunger. Still, I've enjoyed it. it is different, the gameplay loop is satisfying and it is ever so great finding an enemy who fell asleep in a …

This is an excellent and intimate turn-based tactical experience, with great art, and thoughtful design. The game is tough, and can take you out even in the new 'Easy' mode that was added, along with a 'Normal' difficulty. When the game launched, it was ruthless after getting a short way into the game, but the developers have been receptive to constructive criticism, and have added new difficulty levels to cater to varying levels of player. You are a man on his own, far behind enemy lines, and you have several approaches you can take to complete your missions. Depending on the objectives you are presented with (which you can now reroll a limited number of times thanks to an update), you can choose to go stealthy and evasive, or brute force your way through by taking out the enemies you encounter. Neither approach will be easy once you get a bit into the game, but it does start out with a decent difficulty curve. Even so, sometimes things will not go your way, either by an unlucky series of rolls, running out of food, or stepping into a booby trap you could not quite evade. Highly recommended for people who want something tough but mostly fair, and desire a more streamlined play e…

i love the smell of napalm in the morning..... smells like turn based strategy. really awesome resource management rouge like. (if "go tell the spartans" had a child with jagged alliance) it wont pull its punches, just like charlie. balances skills and tactics with item procurement and stealth. a whole firebase of lore, story, easter eggs. character and base/support progression. unique troops with their own unique tactics if i had one minor suggestion needs heaps more guns and items (in like 20 hours ive unlocked like 4 guns... like to see the m14, owen, thompson, slr, bar, like 5 different types of shotguns, grease gun, bren, french rifles, german rifles etc. willy pete, flamethrower, mines, m79...) its pretty good, hidden gem gets thrown around a lot, fun with plenty of replay value. if you like vietnam war themed games this one is a hit.

Recently, I've been refunding some indie games and having some difficulty to find a good one. Well, Seems that I've found a gem here. I've posted my feedback in the game forum if anyone is interested, Really fun game, with some adjusts, this will be one of those games you play every now and then (like Battle Brothers).
