About Soma Union

We spirits are curious things, Zero. We all have a purpose to fulfill, and each of us represents something. And I hope you can figure out what you represent, too. Guess you can figure that out while you're off putting the whole world back together.

Soma Union is a galaxy-spanning adventure that returns to the world of Soma! ...or so it would, if your planet had not been destroyed in a great calamity. As you roam through the cosmos to find the missing fragments of your home world, you'll meet a colorful cast of characters and make important choices that may not be as clear as they seem.

Soma Union is an SNES-styled RPG that aims to celebrate the classics (and the not-so-classics because they deserve love, too). As you experience this space-faring story, you'll explore vast dungeons, interact with strange characters, fight riveting turn-based battles and discover the fate of a shattered land!

Combat is all about synergy and supporting one another! The Role System changes your characters' roles in battle:

Fight your enemies with the damage-dealing Power role, or enhance other party members' abilities with the Support role! By utilizing roles to your advantage, you'll be able to achieve great effects that a single party member can't accomplish alone!
  • Embark on a galaxy-spanning quest to put your home world back together again, because this planet can't seem to catch a break, apparently.
  • Unleash powerful Spirit abilities regardless of your current role to turn the tide of battle!
  • Collect valuable Power Gems to skip enemy encounters with the push of a button... or tough it out and exchange them for rare prizes!
  • Fully custom visuals. And a stellar soundtrack by SpecialAgentApe
  • 10+ hours of good ol' son-of-a-gun RPG gameplay.
  • Funny jokes. The heehees and the hawhaws.

Lovely game that I’d say it’s up there with the likes of earthbound. We oughta be paying for this, honestly!

Going in to Soma Union I was curious as to exactly how a sequel to Soma Spirits could really work, being as simple and straightforward as it was- especially as its simplicity was the root of a lot of its charm. Union attempts to take the framework of Spirits and deliver an experience that's bigger and better, but unfortunately ends up butting heads with the same simplicity and transforming it from a strength into a weakness. Before I delve into sticking points, the positives: Union is, on the whole, much more polished than Spirits in pretty much every aspect. The art is somewhat more refined, the music is catchier and more memorable overall, and the UI has gotten an overhaul. If there's one element to Union that I can't argue with, its that it feels "higher budget" across the board. Unfortunately, outside of audiovisual aspects, the tune ups and additions fail to impress. Perhaps the most major issue is that quite a lot of the game suffers from generally poor and flat pacing, owing to plenty of repetition in design, a lack of differentiation between characters, empty feeling level layouts, and the exceptional ease of the combat. There are indeed some interesting ideas here an…

Genuinely the BEST story driven RPG game I've ever played so far. I decided to check this game out for myself after watching someone stream it because I love the characters and I'm glad I did, playing this was the experience of a lifetime and I cannot stop thinking it.

Probably the best of the Torch60 games, in my opinion. Strong iteration on the previous role-switching system. Some creatively entertaining areas. Good stuff.

Amazing sequel oozing with charming dialogue and fine detail, and I love the cameos from other games. The story is surprisingly strong, and the gameplay is both intricate and satisfying. Going through in hard mode, I thoroughly enjoyed my second romp through Soma.
