What could've been a mediocre but serviceable ARPG becomes completely unplayable once you find out the game has enemy auto-level. Every time you level up, the enemies also get stronger. Killing any sense of progression and turning the game into an unbearable slog.

it was kinda interesting, i didn't play it for long but it reminds me a bit of dungeon siege 1 and 2, although not as good. i'd love to see a successor with better systems and graphics, and i'd pay for that in a heartbeat. i wish the developer would do a remake, or just a new game in this series, were lacking games coming out like this. there's a market for it, but it looks like the developer has gone on to make different types of games, it's a shame.

For some unknown reason, I decided to beat this game. What can I say? The game is extremely repetitive, dull, and unbalanced. You can't play as melee because you won't have enough money to repair your gear and heal yourself. Most of the local "magic" is trash and so expensive that you won't be able to afford it, as the local mana = money. And after you use your magic charges, you need to spend money on recharging them. So you spend money to repair your gear, restore your health, recharge your magic, use your magic, and even energy weapon ammo costs you money. The stats are boring. You basically have +stats, +resists, +fighting skill, +damage, +HP, +MP, and that's all. No unique stats, no unique gear. Mobs and gear scale with your level, making gearing and progression even duller. Locations are very repetitive, and you basically cycle through two types of locations for the whole game. Quests are also almost identical, and the rewards will be sold in 90% of cases. If I had to highlight something good, quests are at least very obvious and easy to complete. The game is somewhat good if you just want to click some mobs to death while listening to your favorite podcast. It might also …

Space Hack will always be my childhood game. Despite its flaws, I think the gameplay is still enjoyable and it's one of those games I keep coming back every few years to because of the nostalgia and its atmosphere. I originally started my playthrough on Normal difficulty, but around the middle of the game, once I had a better understanding of the mechanics, I switched to Hard (the highest difficulty) and finished the game that way. I played a Knowledge focused build, which turned out to be very effective. I imagine a melee-focused build would be significantly more challenging since you cant really dodge like that, you have to tank the hits and using skill cards will be harder because the better cards requier knowledge skills. One thing I really wish this game had is some kind of storage system outside of your personal inventory. It's a shame there's nowhere to keep extra weapons, armor, biochips, and other equipment. Because of this, you're discouraged from experimenting with different character builds. Throughout an entire playthrough, you're basically forced to commit to a single build since there's simply not enough inventory space to keep alternative gear. If t…

I've a lot of memories with this game. My father used to play it non stop and I remember sitting there watching him. So, beating it is my goal. Just like my father did when I was young and this game first released, I feel it is only right that I do this. Its not a perfect game, but I admit it is surprisingly fun, even for how old it is. 10/10 for memories and nostalgia.
