As a Trader, you will attempt to amass a fortune beyond your wildest imagination, buying and selling commodities and taking up arms against the oppressors or even accepting bounty missions, hunting down crime bosses and their thugs.

Space Trader: Merchant Marine is an ambitious but uneven space-faring hybrid that reflects both the creativity and the limitations of mid-2000s indie design. Developed and published by Meridian4, the game sets out to combine interstellar trading, light role-playing progression, and first-person combat into a single experience where players can choose how to make their fortune. You begin as a relatively insignificant trader navigating a bureaucratic, tightly regulated universe, and the long-term goal is to rise in wealth and influence by exploiting trade routes, completing contracts, and occasionally resorting to violence when profit demands it. At the heart of the experience is the trading system, which encourages players to travel between planets and space stations in search of favorable prices. Each location offers a range of commodities, and success depends on buying goods cheaply and selling them elsewhere for a profit. In practice, this loop is simple and easy to grasp, making the game accessible even to players unfamiliar with economic simulations. Its a funny little game made with the doom engine. I might be wrong there but it is a funny little game where you try to do some mini fetch quests...

Valve stopped pre Windows 11 computers from installing Steam so there is no physical way to play this game anymore.
an interesting idea, especially in the 2000's but by now has been eclipsed 100 times over by far better games.
