Thanks to a random posters suggestion on reddit I found this little gem, the whole premise is great but I'm biased and love cats, it's very similar to the arcade shooter in 'The Lab' except it has a two millimetres more depth. By wave 49 on normal after an hour I was sweating like mad so it's a good work out too, for a few quid it's hard not to recommend, the music is good too - dancy technoey I'd say. Come on dear reader it's Spacecats with Lasers! that line alone should be reason enough to buy.2 found this helpful
This little game is kinda neat. I've been looking for an alternative to or better "more of" Xortex from Valves "The Lab" and this one kinda hits the spot. The little space kitty sits on one of your controllers and can fire lasers out of its eyes. You can change the controller with the trigger on the off-hand. You're shooting waves of bad space rats and after each wave you can choose an upgrade out of 4 random(?) shown upgrades, like faster shooting, faster projectiles, faster shield recharge and so on. After you've been killed (or beat all the waves i guess? Achievements go up to wave 100) you can buy little cosmetics for your kitty, like another "spacecraft", fur color or hat and thats it. I can see myself playing this one from time to time to just relax with a nice VR arcade shooter. Played on a Vive Pro 2 with the Vive Wands (2018). Maybe i'll test it on the Index Knuckles next time, but considering the age i don't think they'll be integrated correctly. I will update the review then. :)1 found this helpful
This game is super fun
Played with Oculus Quest 2 + Virtual Desktop. Worked perfectly, no issues. Pretty fun! Others have mentioned it : this is the closest game to "The Lab : Xortex" as you can get, without actually starting The Lab. The cat shooting lasers from a cheese wedge shaped spaceship is a little strange at first, but you get used to it very quickly!! It gets challenging quite quickly too. I managed to reach wave 32. I see that there is also a non-VR version, but it's a separate game, on steam and on the switch. I have not tried the non-VR one.
This game is surprisingly fun! The graphics are simple but work well in the game, and look pretty good in VR. I love the mechanics of controlling the ship by moving the controller in space. It's an excellent value at only $5.
Normally I don't like bullet games but bieng able to move my head around and get a feel for where the bullets are in 3d space using vr is totally different. a good casual game for sitting vr.
