Spike Mtn

Spike Mtn is at first difficult but once the basic moves of the games are learned it is also deeply rewarding. It first made me want to stop playing as I could not even progress past the early stages of the tutorial. A few levels on, however, I managed to piece together a double rope jump and land on the appropriate platform. When this happened a genuine feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction came over me. This in itself is remarkable for such a simple but rewarding game. Note* would highly encourage using a physical mouse! Looking forward to more games from the creator/s of Spike Mtn!

This game completely focuses on the pixel-perfect use of the Grappling Hook. They handcrafted the game in such a way that it was both enjoyable and challenging. I mean, the developers didn’t actually write a full-fledged storyline, unlike similar games like Celeste, Ori, etc. The only thing I figured out while playing is that you do know your end goal, to reach the end of the mountain. I assume the mountain’s name is Spike Mtn due to the game’s name. I guess it’s very similar to Celeste since your end goal is to reach the peak of the mountain. Spike Mtn is a must-play for anyone who loves platformers. Its unique gameplay mechanics, exceptional level design, and nostalgic music make it a memorable gaming experience. The game is challenging yet addictive. One of the best aspects of Spike Mtn is the unique gameplay mechanics. The game requires you to fire a grapple to navigate around obstacles, which adds a whole new dimension to the platformer genre. This mechanic is executed brilliantly, making every successful jump and grapple feel incredibly satisfying. The level design in Spike Mtn is exceptional. Each level offers a different set of challenges, with obstacles that require you to master the grapple, swing and super jump mechanic to progress. The grappling hook is an age-old gaming staple. It is a reliable tool, one that is usually easy to acquire, but difficult to master. And it is this tool that is the main focus of Spike Mtn, the debut game developed by WorldForm. Hailing from Australia, WorldForm is an indie studio that wants to suck its players into the games they create. Using atmosphere, scale, and attention to detail, they plan to immerse their player base into all manner of digital worlds. Take the challenge. Overcoming the challenges of Spike Mtn entails using precision movement to conquer each obstacle. Grappling hooks are used to swing back and forth, and build momentum. Gain enough and the player can then launch themselves a fair distance through the air. If things go horribly wrong, the end result is a swift and merciful death. And I can guarantee things will go wrong. Many, many times. In the same vein as Celeste or Super Meat Boy, Spike Mtn is a game of trial and error. Spike Mtn is one of those games that starts you off thinking, "I got this, my skills won't fail me" - just to then put you in your place...with spikes! Between the smashing into the ground, horrible timings on my part and the agony of defeat when you think you had that perfect swing...you can't help but to enjoy it all. That said, if you want to test your timing and reaction skills, as well as problem solving - then be sure to grab this game. It's also great to challenge your friends to as well! 10/10 - would splat on spikes again.
