Springuins

Springuins is one of those little puzzle games that I immediately found adorable. I control a penguin named Flare while trying to reunite with Breeze after the pair become separated in a bright springtime world. The setup is simple, but I liked the way the game turns their separation into the central puzzle mechanic rather than simply making me walk from one side of a level to the other. The main idea is that I directly control Flare, while collecting a cherry blossom causes Breeze to follow Flare's movement for a short period. This creates a clever one controls two system where I have to think ahead about where both penguins will end up. I enjoyed planning movements because a path that looks perfect for Flare can easily leave Breeze stuck somewhere useless. The levels are small enough that I can experiment without feeling overwhelmed. I liked this bite sized approach because failure usually teaches me something immediately. The grid based movement also makes the puzzles feel precise, since I can understand exactly how far the penguins will move and how each obstacle affects their position. "Springuins" is an unambitious Sokoban derivative. It's one of those ones where you move two characters at the same time (yeah, I know, but we have to try to stay awake). You have to make the exact, correct moves on the puzzle grid to get both characters to the end squares. The gimmick here, such as it is, is that you pick up a flower and this gives you only a limited number of moves to move both characters right. This doesn't really change the formula, with these games, just like the original Sokoban this is ripping off, the solution to every level is just the right set of left, right, up and down commands, and it's true for this too. It's boring. And the technical presentation is incredibly weak. So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. Best game I've ever played

cute puzzle game. very basic, but the last 2 levels required a bit of thinking. if you have 30 minutes to kill it's worth playing.
