About STAR FLEET II - Krellan Commander Version 2.0
✦ AI summary
Command a Krellan battle fleet across 1,700+ star systems to conquer planets and destroy Alliance warships using real-time space and planetary combat. This deep strategy simulation uniquely doubles as two games in one, switching to a full tactical invasion mode whenever you assault a planet with your elite Krellan forces.
Star Fleet II: Krellan Commander is the second in the Star Fleet series of advanced space strategy simulations. Having fought as an Alliance starship commander in Star Fleet I to stem the onslaught of the Krellan and Zaldron Empires, now you get a chance to try command on the "winning" side.
A Pitched Battle with an Enemy Starbase
As Commander of a Krellan Battlecruiser with four destroyer escorts (forming a "battle fleet"), your mission is to explore the star systems of the United Galactic Alliance looking for planets to conquer and Alliance warships to destroy. Your ships are equipped with the latest technology, including phasers, homing torpedoes and deadly obliterator pods. Also at your command are elite shock troops for boarding and capturing enemy vessels, and legions of Krellan warriors for planetary invasions.
Star Fleet II gives you more depth, complexity, and realism than any space war simulation before or since. But that's not all! Star Fleet II is actually two games in one. Every time you invade a planet, Star Fleet II switches to a complete planetary invasion game that allows you to control the conquering Krellan forces in their attempt to overwhelm the planetary defenders.
From up to dozens of military targets on the detailed planetary map, select and control up to eight invasion zones from your Invasion Control Screen, or take personal command of your units. Your objectives: to capture cities and factories; knock out shield generators, planetary defense phasers, point defense lasers, and missile launchers; and eliminate both UGA troops and native militia forces. Like combat in space, planetary combat is real-time (no turns, but you can pause!).
Explore uncharted star systems and planets - your landing parties may even discover the ruins of ancient civilizations that may contain beneficial alien artifacts. Attack and pillage planets, wipe out civilizations with a single command, interrogate prisoners from a captured starliner, then beam those prisoners into the sun or empty space to improve your crew's morale! Who says command can't be fun?!

Very Buggy. I was playing the first couple missions and putting survey teams and in some cases base building teams. I would then go on to explore more planets and do the same thing. I would then go back to pick up the survey teams once they were done. I would get progressively more crew and troops back then I put down in the first place. It seems when picking up crew/troops it never resets the amount coming back, if you do this 5 or 6 times you are retrieving litterally hundreds of crew/troops even though you might have only put down 50-60 in the first place. They seem to multiply very quickly, not sure what hanky-panky is going on down on the planet that they can multiply in 1 or 2 days. In addition, teleporting back only a few crew/troops seems to "partially remove" the whole landing party. Yet if you put the base troops back, then the landing party appears with those you did not remove in the first place. The whole "landing party" mechanics seem incredibly buggy.3 found this helpful
Having a lot of fun with this. As a child of the 70s, Star Trek TOS defined my world. This game feels EXACTLY like being a Klingon Commander, conquering and pillaging through the sector. A bit of a learning curve but nothing near the complexity of Dwarf fortress. The tutorials are excellent. The missions build slowly, teaching you the game and controls. Highly recommended!3 found this helpful
The game I'm most afraid to play (seriously, look at the instruction manual). Despite that, the developer deserves applause for their exhaustive work fixing bugs. When I have time, I'll dedicate a whole day to reading the manual and understanding how to play.1 found this helpful
First I have huge amount of hours playing this back in 1989 and 1990. This is much improved and I look forward to deep diving into it again once I have more time. i really appreciate the work being done to fix the original bugs! Thank you for bringing this back!
This. This is perfection. The manual, the input method, the graphics ..... while I never played this game specifically in earlier times, I wish I had, haha. This brings back memories of other games I haven't played in years since losing my 386 to a tragic attic-cleaning accident. Thank you.
Wonderful and very detailed starship simulator. I keep coming back to it.
