Players appreciate this modernized Asteroids tribute for its creative twists like independent movement controls, multiple weapon pickups, and the chaotic Black Hole mode, though they find it enjoyable as a budget title. Common complaints center on repetitive asteroid spawning patterns and movement that feels unnatural compared to the original, tiny hard-to-see pixel asteroids, rigid difficulty progression that hands out ships too freely, and control customization limitations that make gamepad play awkward.
Based on the old 1980s favourite but with a few twists: you move with WASD (or controller) independent of the direction you are facing, press space for an emergency stop, and pick ups allow up to 5 guns at once. Also shields, and bombs. 2 game modes; Black Hole is my favourite mode as the 'roids spin wildly around middle of the screen. The other mode 'arcade, the 'roids seem to move mostly diagonally left to right. Not sure if a bug or not?!? The smallest asteroids are tiniest ever in a game and are hard to see at literally 1 pixel big. Difficulty is a mixed bag as the game can be challenging but you earn new ships like confetti. Nevertheless a fun and imaginative rendition of an old classic for a dollar or so.6 found this helpful

SUPER ASTEROIDS is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Asteroids (Copyright Atari, 1979). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Atari against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. This is also infringing on the Asteroids trademark from Atari, so it's likely that as soon as Atari finds out about this, it will be removed from Steam. Developers can't just steal other developers intellectual property and trademarks. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. SUPER ASTEROIDS is considerably worse than Asteroids. This ripoff of Atari's Asteroids is a construction kit game. The "developer" used the mediocre (and mostly code-free) Construct 2 video game construction kit, filling out input forms/using premade …3 found this helpful
I found this title a poor substitute for the original. The game was so dull untill level 8 and then a few levels later finished with a non challenging Boss. Even though it was a cheap title I expected a little more variation than the asteroids always spawing in the same location. Not a terible waste, but definatly disapointing. Recomended for very inexperienced players (children)3 found this helpful
This game does not have the realistic feel of any version of the original Asteroids, not even the Atari 2600 version. The problem is the rocks themselves. They just gravitate from the top left to the bottom right, with hardly any variety of motion. If you spray them constantly with shots for a long time, they pop into a set of smaller clones in exactly the same pattern every time, and kind of just continue moving along as before. Instead of blowing up rocks in space, it feels like you're pollinating blobby plants until they give birth to successively smaller seedlings...bleech! This could all be fixed with a little math instead of hard code, but in its current form it just isn't any fun to play.2 found this helpful
Cannot customize controls and default controls for the game pad are wonky. Very dissappointing.2 found this helpful
