✦ AI summary

In Falsus blends a visual novel, rhythm game, and puzzle card-crafting system into an ambitious hybrid that most players find emotionally engaging and well-written, though the experience is demanding and benefits significantly from a dedicated rhythm game keyboard. While fans of rhythm games praise the tight controls and the unexpectedly good story with its intense emotional moments, players warn that the game has a steep learning curve and may take 20+ hours to fully click, making it most suitable for rhythm game enthusiasts willing to invest time in mastering its unique mechanics.

I rarely write reviews of games, but this is one of the few that has truly touched my heart. The story isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it's pretty damn good. It has some unexpected twists (something that's becoming increasingly rare in modern games). It's relatively short for a visual novel, but it's well-written. After the first chapter (there are five chapters in the game so far), it constantly keeps you on edge, and I mean really on edge. Sometimes it's so intense that reading it becomes physically exhausting. If you enjoy emotional damage, this game is for you. The gameplay is also worth mentioning. It's divided into three parts: a visual novel, a rhythm game, and a Tetris-like puzzle game. All three are fairly well-developed. Some card crafting recipes genuinely make you sit down and think, whether you're trying to complete challenges or simply craft a stronger card that will come in handy during future encounters. I can't say much about the rhythm gameplay. It's basically standard osu!mania, except you have six keys for the lower lane that you have to press with one hand, while your other hand is constantly occupied with the mouse, which you use to interact with the upper…
I genuinely love what this game has done but!
I would struggle to recommend this to anyone I know that isn't a rhythm game freak (and is willing to "put up" with the rest of the game.) Lowiro has done a great job of pushing the envelope on a PC rhythm game, in both rhythm game controls, but also more broadly whatever this amalgamation of a game could be called. In Falsus is rhythm game paired with a visual novel... paired with a puzzle solving-card crafting element. All 3 of which somehow blend together well enough by the end of the game but not without some frustration. In the same vein as "I know it's weird and off putting but trust me bro it gets good after the 20th episode"... The game didn't really click for me until roughly 25 hours of playtime. The narrative starts slow, and the song unlocks are actually gated behind mandatory progression of the narrative (unless they choose to change this in a future update); both of which make it frustrating for anyone who just wants to jump into the rhythm game portion of the game. This is even more frustrating when the card crafting element is introduced as there are points in the game where you will be stat-diffed by having…

100% One of the best rhythm games I've ever played, and even the story that I didn't know it had when I first bought it is a banger. Hope they add more story and wrap it up with no cliffhangers. Pleasantly surprised, and 100% would buy the game again or any future games if they wanted to add the continuation of a story to a second In Falsus game. I didn't know your game Lowiro, but it damn was it good.

I think this game is too frustrating to play with a standard QWERTY keyboard because I keep missing my own keyboard and hit capslock/G instead of A-S-D-F. Also I got mastery on a few cards and after 2 hours of my life, realized that I was solving puzzles for a rhythm game just because I was so bad at the rhythm game that I needed to max my offense/defense. I cannot recommend this game unless you already have a dedicated keyboard like those pros so that you do not curse yourself for moving your hand too far. I was hoping for something like SDVX or osu!mania, oh well.
