About The Bridge

✦ AI summary

Navigate mind-bending logic puzzles through impossible Escher-like worlds by manipulating gravity and redefining perspective in ways that defy physics. With 48 uniquely designed challenges, stunning hand-drawn lithographic art, and a rewind system that eliminates fear of failure, this is puzzle gaming as artistic masterpiece.

The Bridge is a logic puzzle game that forces you to reevaluate your preconceptions of physics and perspective. It is Isaac Newton meets M. C. Escher. Manipulate gravity to redefine the ceiling as the floor while venturing through impossible architectures. Explore increasingly difficult worlds, each uniquely detailed and designed to leave you with a pronounced sense of intellectual accomplishment. The Bridge exemplifies games as an art form, with beautifully hand-drawn art in the style of a black-and-white lithograph.

Key Features

  • 48 thought-provoking puzzles, each unique from the rest, all requiring an innovative solution.
  • Gravity manipulations, gravitational vortexes, parallel dimensions, and many more mind-bending concepts in a world where the laws of physics are not what they seem.
  • M. C. Escher-esque worlds with impossible architecture set in the style of beautifully hand-drawn black-and-white lithographic art.
  • An alternate version of the game unlocked after the main storyline has been completed, including challenging alternate versions of each of the 24 main puzzles, along with an alternate ending.
  • A time-backtracking system to alleviate any fears of making a mistake.

The concept is fascinating: you explore Escher-style drawings in all their non-Euclidean glory in order to get keys, avoid danger, and reach the exit door. To match it, the art style is top-notch and the puzzles have a lot of care put into their design. On the other hand, some of the late game puzzles were downright infuriating. In earlier levels, something not working usually meant to try a different idea. For some of the late game puzzles, something not working tended to mean that the idea was correct but the execution was slightly off; the threshold for success felt way too strict at times. To be fair, this was a relatively small percentage of the levels. Overall, I do recommend it for puzzle fans for the interesting concept alone. I struggled to think strategically about these bizarre non-Euclidean environments, but there is a consistent logical framework that was fun to tease out.

It's like stepping into an Escher painting that's also a puzzle.

One of the earlier puzzle games that got me to explore the genre. At its heart this is quite a simple game, mechanically there isn't too much for you to control and it is quite easy to understand the mechanics and proceed with playing it. The real feather in the game's cap is the hand-drawn art, I find myself remembering this game mostly for this where it really knocked it out of the park. Having experienced other puzzle games over the year I can come back and say this is not necessarily the best puzzle game out there but it has a very memorable atmosphere sound and especially art. I have very fond memories of playing it and give it 7/10.
