This game was a huge misfire for me. I love Lucky Duck games. Destinies is in my top 10 board games. The dialogue in this is so poor. Swearing and cursing in a game like this makes sense, but the writer wields it with all of the finesse of a Machiavellian 12 year-old behind the school portables. All of the game needs to be read aloud, which can be a good thing, but the characters and dialogue don't lend themselves to be fun to read. Annie Christmas was the only character who wasn't angry to see us. Everyone but her is surly or outright hostile. At some point, we stopped using most of the physical components, because a lot of locations only hung around for one player's turn, and then disappeared. The item deck was the only needed item. We didn't finish it. We played 5-8 Intermissions and then realized that it was never going to get better. We were never going to feel like detectives, we were just going to be playing along with a poorly-written digital novel that would drag us from event to event, while degrading our skill tracks as we went.
