About The Edge of Allegoria
Do you like adventure? Are you a sucker for a world of monsters and magic?Do you like wholesale violence peppered with coarse language, and served with a side of pixelated booty?
Then buckle up, you legend. We're going for a ride...

Get ready to travel far and wide, taking on creatures of all shapes and sizes in classic turn-based fashion, while discovering the secrets and adventures that Allegoria has in store.
Harvest the body parts of your adversaries for financial gain and personal satisfaction, level up to strike down even greater foes, and arm yourself with more weapons and equipment than any sane person could be reasonably expected to carry on their person at any given time.

There are more than 144 unique enemies to face on your adventures through Allegoria, from ferocious Canadian geese and majestic tortoises to your bog-standard fantasy staples like dragons, unicorns, and the ever-ubiquitous slimes! There are plenty of beasts and beyond to encounter, each with unique item drops that can be sold in shops for the gold you'll need to purchase weapons and equipment to aid you on your journey.
Have you ever played a game that has one weapon you just can't put down, or an armor set that makes you indestructible? It's a great feeling, isn't it?Too bad that's not the case here.
In Allegoria, if you want to get stronger, you'll need to master as much equipment as you can if you want to increase your stats, and if you think you need new attacks or magic spells to bring with you into battle, you'd better replace that old gear with something new, and fast. With more than 80 skills to learn and almost 150 pieces of equipment to collect, you'll want to try them all to find the right move set for you!

There's no shortage of personality in Allegoria, and everyone seems to have something to say. Most of it's just fluff to fill in empty spaces and make the world seem more lifelike, but every once in a while, someone actually has something useful to say. They may be a little rough around the edges, but the people of Allegoria are always willing to guide you on your journey, and they might even have a quest or two for you to earn gold and other helpful items.

There's a story in there somewhere... it's just buried under layers of madness and debauchery. If you think grinding for experience and mastering weapons is tedious, try to unravel this Gordian knot of a narrative.
Does it have a deeper meaning? Absolutely!
Does it matter? No! It's a video game! Just enjoy it and stop worrying about what kind of subliminal messaging the developer is trying to inject into your subconscious...

If you're a fan of retro handheld RPGs with a 2-bit pixel art aesthetic but are tired of the same played-out, stereotypical, fantasy adventure, then be sure to pick up The Edge of Allegoria today for a refreshing take on the genre that influenced a generation!

great game if you're thirteen and just learned about drugs and sex6 found this helpful
One of my best friends gifted this to me. Holy crap am I glad he did. This scratches my Millennial stupid-comedy / GameBoy Pokemon-obsessed nostalgia itch so much while also adding an easy to understand but fun combat system. I can't stop playing this game.2 found this helpful
Really want to enjoy this, but the fact that grinding for mastery on every weapon / equipment and being one level higher than the first boss and still getting steamrolled by BS double swings, CRITS, and full health bar attacks while only being able to just constantly heal is really irritating. That's not intuitive combat, there is no lesson to learn or skill/ability to gain an edge when the boss is constantly faster than you, regardless of your equipment or stats. I'm not going to keep Grinding lvl 1-3 enemies for 3 hours just to beat one boss. PASS2 found this helpful
The Edge of Allegoria is a retro-styled role-playing game developed by Button Factory Games and published by CobraTekku Games. Drawing inspiration from classic handheld RPGs, the game immediately evokes memories of the genre's early years through its pixel-art presentation, turn-based combat, and world-spanning adventure. However, beneath its nostalgic exterior lies an experience that is far more unconventional than its visuals initially suggest. Rather than delivering a straightforward heroic fantasy tale, the game embraces satire, dark humor, and an often outrageous sense of comedy that gives it a distinct identity among modern independent RPGs. Players are introduced to a world that appears familiar at first glance, filled with villages, monsters, dungeons, and mysterious dangers. As the adventure progresses, however, it becomes clear that Allegoria is anything but a typical fantasy setting. The game constantly subverts expectations through bizarre encounters, eccentric personalities, and dialogue that frequently shifts between absurd humor and surprisingly thoughtful observations. This unique tone ensures that the world remains unpredictable, making exploration feel rewarding …1 found this helpful
An old-school JRPG in the vein of Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior) for the NES and significantly smarter than people will give it credit for due to its prevalent sense of humour. All of the old-school boxes are checked, along with quality-of-life improvements that weren't available at the time -such as a verbose and often amusing bestiary (check the Mimic entry) that actually nudges people over to where an unmet enemy might be found. It also has the best final boss fight in all of gaming, period. This is genuinely one of my favourite games and I thought that I didn't enjoy this style of game anymore. I love the fact that I'm wrong.1 found this helpful
What an absolute blast! If you like retro gaming with an updated sense of humour than look no further! Combining the game play and visuals of Pokemon Red and Blue, with a teenager's sense of humour straight out of the original Fallout, Edge of Allegoria is a fun romp through the world of GameBoy JRPGs. The story is humourous, following the adventures of a provincial nobody as they ascend the levels to God-hood in a quest that is more forced on them, than willingly taken up. And, the completing of town quests along the way will conpletely change the world of Allegoria. I love the streamlined combat system that eliminates the need to manage a team of fighting monsters and lets you get straight in to the action. The simplified inventory system is also amazing, allowing you to quickly bulk sell the junk items you collect and to decide which other items you want to sell individually. Overall, I have found the experience to be awesome and am happy to see it completed - I remember watching it get built on Twitter when I was an active member of the Pixel community! Love it!1 found this helpful
