THE KING OF FIGHTERS '97 GLOBAL MATCH

I still remember my tiny self back in the 90s, in the arcade, pulling off the craziest moves as Shermie. What a time that was... And when you kick everyone's rear, you're like the champion of the arcade... and everybody wanted to be my friend. Though in school I hardly had any friends, I was a movie star in the Arcades. Anyways, if you wanna relive those memories, grab this game. If not, also grab it because it's still a stable Fighting game to this day, with an amazing caste of characters and a bunch of grabbers that use monkey tactics to floor you. [b]9/10[/b] game from the old times.

[b]Original Review[/b] The game's good, but the lack of a training mode and the difficulty in arcade mode makes it hard to recommend. If you want a classic KOF title, get either ‘98 or 2002, as both offer more game modes and bigger rosters. [b]Updated Review[/b] I can only recommend if you're interested in the story mode, as this is the conclusion of the Orochi Saga, and both '98 and 2002 lacks a story mode. Plus, it gets very cheap on sale, so it's not really a bad deal getting an excellent fighting game for a buck or two. But still, my negative points I mentioned in the original review still stands.

A solid KoF game. Code Mystics put the same thought and care into this as they do with their other fighter ports. Not as refined as modern fighters, though it stands on its own for a game from '97, and holds up well all these years later. If you're patient and wait until it's on sale you can grab it for very cheap.

A perfectly functional port with excellent rollback netcode. No ranked ladder. Achievements are for getting all the endings, most of which aren't terribly interesting. Only two people in a lobby at a time. If you don't like the idea of sucking balls at 3 different characters instead of just 1, then in multiplayer you can optionally play one-character matches that fully restore health between rounds, like in Street Fighter. This is the final story chapter of a series that basically doesn't exist on PC outside of emulation. Therefore Goenitz gets mentioned in every variation of the story and doesn't actually show up, while Iori kinda comes out of nowhere. It is the introduction of the "Advanced" system that would go on to be N-groove in CvS2, alongside the "Extra" KoF94 system which goes on to be S-groove. Very few characters actually have special musical themes and most of the stages have boring ambient BGMs, despite the typical beautiful art. With its relatively small roster, this might be a better introduction to the series than 98 is.
