The Last Warmage is praised as a well-balanced, cohesive indie game with engaging combat that blends tower defense and tapper mechanics, featuring diverse enemies, spell variety, and atmospheric environments that guide players through an interesting story. Players appreciate the strategic depth requiring spell management and build variety, though the game has faced criticism for excessive grinding early on, which the developer addressed by adding an easy mode to improve progression.
The Last WarMage could use a little more polish but it's a lot of fun. Essentially tapper but with weapon & enemy variety, ammo management and dynamic controls. Thoughtful and can get hectic. Last Warmage released today! It's essentially a complex "Tapper" game. You'll need to rapidly cycle through weapons to maximise efficiency against a range of enemies as ammo management is key. Also requires dual control to collect pickups. Pretty cool game. For more niche curation, follow me at: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/27440015-CSH-Picone/4 found this helpful
This is a very cohesive and complex game despite the fact that it is an indie game created by a solo indie developer. The difficulty is well-balanced, and the game and story have a nice arc. The combat system may seem simple at first, but as the game gets harder and you unlock more spells, you'll need to start varying your spell builds more and more. The wardrobe feature adds a lot of variety and allows you to create mana, health, damage, or xp-based builds, which is necessary because the different levels require different strategies. The levels are very atmospheric, taking the player from a desert world to a dark forest, snowy landscapes, and other environments, and guiding them through the story. The side quests have some very interesting twists and turns, and it's worth paying attention to the unlockable hidden items. The music has a very good atmosphere that fits the game's setting and mood. Overall, this is a very well-thought-out and developed indie game that does a great job of combining the classic tower defense style with the world of spells. I can highly recommend it to anyone, as it's a real gem in this sea of template-generated, soulless games. It's a 10/10 for me…3 found this helpful
This game is fun, and balanced, although it is extremely grindy. I'm 5 hours in, have beat the first stage over and over with no monsters getting through (for 5 hours). I believe my character is Level 10. The developer seems cool, but he/she knows he must make adjustments to the rewards system (specifically mana points), but refuses to. I enjoy this game immensely, but would like to get to the later stages. Update desperately needed. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/towerdefensegamesrated Update-the dev added an easy mode. video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ6p1d6q7Vs2 found this helpful
The Last Warmage is close to being a Roguelike Towerdefense game, but dying doesn't mean you have to start from the 1st stage. I really enjoyed playing it so far, the difficulty seems very well balanced. Spell and Resource management is key for survival and to defend the pathway successfully. You have to focus on the task at hand otherwise, you will be overwhelmed by the swarms of enemies. There are many monsters and each have an individual type, and weakness, also there is lore behind them too. I'm still progressing through the game, but I'm also eager to find out how the story will progress for the Warmage. I can only recommend this game! Well done! :)2 found this helpful
