[h1]Overview[/h1] [b]The Source[/b] is a graphic tale containing full audio support for all story text. The player reads on as an outsider following the unfolding events of a couple of story characters, with no agency to alter the narrative. In summary, the epitome of the genre description “visual novel.” [h1]Story[/h1] The post-apocalyptic world is a crumby place to survive. Life is hard. But there is hope for a select few each year thanks to a solitary paradise on earth known, somewhat strangely, as “Source City”. Annually, a few pairs of individuals are selected to partake in a trial together which involves travelling back in time to visit moments in history. They have free will over whether to get involved or simply act as bystanding witnesses. At the end of their travels, they are expected to report on what they have seen, and thus a decision will be reached as to whether they have passed or failed their trial; with success leading to their admission to Source City and a life they could only have previously dreamed of. In [i]The Source[/i] you will embark on a trial that takes you back in time to ensure your place in a future utopia. [h3]The Story[/h3] The year is 2750 and each year chosen members of Earth’s Society begin a trial to enter Source City. You follow one pair, Joe & Eva as they traverse the trial and their relationship. It reminds me of the story behind The Hunger Games. The promise of Source City being a utopia where no war or strife exists and everyone lives in harmony. The trial itself involves time travel. You travel to different destinations in pairs. The destinations are all set in different times in Earth’s history before the fall of civilization. In the first half of the novel you meet various people and encounter various events that set up the flip side of the story in the second half. Meeting characters in the first part and seeing the alternate side of the story in the second half. The second half really picks up speed and I found moves much too fast with the conclusion of the novel coming to a fast paced ending. This game is honestly one of only a handful of visual novels that I've played but it was quite enjoyable, perhaps I'll give the genre more of a look from now on. I enjoyed the art style as well. The soundtrack as another delight to the ears & fit the setting of the game very well. My only occasional issue is some of the voice lines cut off a bit short & abruptly. I really enjoyed the twists & turns of the story. Definitely did NOT expect the plot reveals towards the end of the game, well done.

What is real? How do we define if something or someone is real? What makes you so sure you are real? Do you think that just because something feels real, that makes it real? You would certainly experience yourself, your environment and the people in it, as real. Well, that just makes it real for you for as long as you are experiencing it. When you dream at night, do you not while dreaming, believe your dreams are real? It is when you wake up, you realize they are not. And you probably also noticed they were a little odd but you did not notice that while you were dreaming, right? Perhaps that which we call "reality" is the same way. It is a subjective experience and feels very real to us for as long as we are in it, until one day, we wake up. I originally watched this Visual Novel someplace else for free to see if it was any good. It turned out that the Visual Novel was so incredible good that I just had to buy it to support this awesome piece of work!
