The Technician

This is a really nice take on the logic gate kind of puzzle game. It has really fun tactile interactions and the addition of a enemies definitely gives you something to think about. It is basically, exactly the kind of game I love and enjoy playing, unfortunately I can't recommend it because the performance is absolutely atrocious. I originally picked this game up a year and a half ago and figured I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and time to improve (I'd rather support development than refund stuff) but coming back to it now I think it's actually worse than it was when I played it at the start of 2019. The game suffers from constant stuttering to the point that you keep being dropped back to the SteamVR horizon loading area. It is literally unplayable right now (and causes awful motion sickness for trying). I really hope this gets a decent optimisation before it comes out of early access because it's got so much promise. I'll definitely come back and reevaluate this again at some point because I have been wanting to play it for a long time now and seeing that is has a level editor now makes me excited! FYI: I can run Half-Life: Alyx with no trouble so I don't think it's my PC.

fun game, but havent seen much progress. i think what you buy now is what you will get. shame

One of my favourite VR games, the combination of puzzle solving/shooting is excellent. Puzzles are interesting and varied, feels like "Keep talking and noone explodes" but for single player. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed this game when it came out. Wish it had more attention so the dev/s could put more time into it and flesh it out.

I couldn't get it working very well with the Rift S. I'd like to try it because it's got all the things I think I'd dig in a circuit building game and I like VR shooters, seems like good practice to keep me focused too, but it's also still alpha and hasn't had updates since 2020. Probably yet another abandoned title. Steam really should remove all the abandoned titles or at least label them and extend the refund time on them as they sometimes take a long time to figure out how to make work on newer hardware or older hardware with newer drivers.

I had this on my wish list for a long time, really enjoyed the concept of having to keep your cool and solve puzzles while being shot at. I finally it on sale, and am enjoying what I'm seeing so far! The puzzles are really ramping up in difficulty - I was impressed by the OR/XOR type switches, but then mind boggled when it started adding in power levels, invisible codes you can only access via a headmount terminal connection, etc. Definitely a ton of depth to the puzzles, something an electrical engineer or programmer would enjoy. The shooting is OK, not the best combat I've seen, but serves its purpose ... do you drop your hacking tool, which is almost done unlocking a code, to grab your gun, and have to re-start the hack? Graphics and sound are OK, nothing special, but it's clean and plays well. Thumbs up!
